About the Item
Martha Pachon Rodriguez, group of 3 Sea Urchins pieces, 2019, porcelain. Unique pieces, entirely handmade.
1 large piece: 26cm diameter x 12cm depth
2 small pieces: 15cm diameter x 8 cm depth
These sculptural porcelain pieces – inspired by the sun and the sea of Sorrento in the Amalfi coast - work beautifully either freestanding as well as wall hanging. Two of the pieces present details made with Nerikomi, an ancient Asian technique revisited in a modern key. Nerikomi is a pattern of different coloured porcelain tiles, carefully prepared and then cut into thin filaments and positioned to compose the piece. All details and 'petals' are individually hand-modelled.
Martha Pachon Rodriguez (Colombia, 1967) originally from Colombia, moved to Italy to complete her ceramic studies in Faenza, one of the most representative ceramic production centres in Italy. Her porcelain sculptures often evoke sea creatures and the underwater world using slabs of extreme fineness allowing her to obtain stunning transparency and colour effects.
