About the Item

Magnificent Susan Tibbles life sized 3-diminsional art assemblage titled “Master Lock” framed sculpture in purposefully distressed display case or shadow box. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, the bottom left corner of frame was broken and a new piece was glued in by our experienced staff. Frame is purposefully distressed. Please see photos, zoom in for details, and see long description as they are part of the condition report. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, 1989. The definition of a woman? SHE is complicated… SHE is strong… when she isn’t feeling weak. SHE is happy… when she isn’t feeling sad. SHE can do anything placed in front of her… if she can get out of bed. SHE is bold and daring… but sometimes she feels simple. SHE is independent… but sometimes she needs you. She doesn’t want to “blend in” … but she’s judged if she “stands out.” SHE is too old to wear this and too young to wear that. She is too fat; she is too thin… She is your best friend… but SHE is her own worst enemy. She is aged longing for her youth… she is young longing for adulthood. SHE has been labeled as mother, grandmother, wife, girlfriend, partner, daughter, sister… but WHO is SHE to herself?? If SHE is strong willed… she is a b**ch. If SHE is sexy or seductive… she is a tramp. If SHE is reserved… she is a prude. She doesn’t care… but she really cares TOO much! If she could see herself as others do, she would see that SHE is a creation of perfection. Exactly who she is supposed to be. Unique. Individual. Irreplaceable. Definition of a woman? SHE is a masterpiece… but SHE is complicated. We have an incredible life-sized art assemblage created by renowned designer Susan Tibbles for your viewing pleasure! This piece is titled “Master Lock,” and was custom made and hand crafted by Susan Tibbles in 1989. It is composed of a masterfully sculpted and crafted 3-diminsional woman’s silver negligee, thigh high fish net stockings with lock details on the thigh straps, black spiked stiletto heels, and a silver beaded & spiked neck collar with a ring attached to a full-length chain draping from the collar to a hook at the top of the case. The chain hangs down to the base of the case where it gathers between the spiked heels. SASSY!! The sculpture stands in front of a black leather-like back drop inside a monumental black and white display case or shadow box painted with a purposefully distressed technique. The box is framed with a deliberately distressed black and white painted wood frame featuring torn mesh edges at the top and bottom behind the glass front. It is MARVELOUS to say the least. A little sexy? Yes. A little sophisticated? Yes! A bit mischievous? Well… also yes! This piece is daring, deep, and maybe a bit dark depending on your perception. It may speak to you on women’s identity and bounds they endure, exhibition or bondage as a metaphorical standpoint, female objectification, or it may just be a risqué representation of a stunning feminine figure and a little fantasy. It’s YOUR imagination so, you wouldn’t be wrong! It has some Gothic style tones to me so it would be fun to hang in a room among other esoteric pieces, but she will certainly make a bold statement on her own on ANY wall you choose. Susan Tibbles is a self-taught accomplished artist who launched her career in 1990 in Santa Barbara, California working with mixed media assemblages and collages using fabricated objects she collects from thrift stores, salvaged items, and local findings. From these items she builds pieces, often layered, turning “trash into treasure.” She assembles her works in a fashion representing her own world views regarding topics such as cosmetic surgery, love, racial discrimination, American cultures, and politics. She has been self-described as a “visual journalist,” and her work has been shown in Galleries and Museums across the United States and Europe. Her illustrations have also graced several publications over the last twenty years including The Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, San Francisco Chronicle, and The Baltimore Sun. This phenomenal life-sized hand-crafted sculpture titled “Master Lock” by Susan Tibbles is incredible, unique, edgy, and one-of-a-kind. You hold the key… UN-LOCK IT….and make it YOURS!!!!! Modern Geometric Mixed Metal Dimensional Wall Sculptures by C Jere Series of 4
By C. Jeré Artisan House
Located in Topeka, KS
Gorgeous modern series of four geometrical dimensional mixed metal wall sculptures by C. Jere, unsigned but easily documented online. Comprised of steel, brass, and copper. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that these are vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. There are scratches on all 4 sculptures, a ding on one, and we have replaced 2 triangular bent metal pieces. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, late 20th – early 21st century. Oh yeah… it’s hip to be square!! And in this case, that is definitely true!! This is an awesome series of four-square dimensional mixed metal wall sculptures by C. Jere displaying various unique and abstract geometric designs comprised of steel, brass, and copper arranged in the center of each metal square. C. Jere (a.k.a.) Curtis Jere is not a single artist but is a nom-de-plume for a group of artists working for Artisan House and well known for their phenomenal jewelry, metal sculptures, and collectibles. This series of four is a MUST have for any wall that needs a bold statement piece, touch of Modern style, or simply an intriguing, phenomenal piece of artwork! Position them to your preference and change any wall from being bland, to BOOM! They would be wonderful side by side in a row of four however, I envision them stacked one on top of the other in a large square. Maybe over a fireplace, on a wall in a tall entry way, or on a primary wall in your living room. If you’ve been looking for the right touch of Modern or Industrial edge to welcome into your home… you just found it! Artisan House artists included founders Curtis Freiler and Jerry Fels and Curtis Jere is a combination of their names. Before founding Artisan House these two friends and brothers-in-law had built a costume jewelry business which sold under the names of Renoir and Matisse, two well-known names of mid-20th century costume jewelry. During the mid-20th century, the C. Jere sculptures, and metal work were distributed by Raymor, a well-known name in mid century collectibles, and sold at Gump’s in San Francisco and other upscale retail establishments. Jerry Fels died 11...
