MCM Mixed-Media Abstract 2d Art Piece Where No Sea Runs by Richard Slimon, 1962

About the Item

Fabulous mixed-media abstract 2D art piece by renowned Kansas artist Richard Slimon titled Where No Sea Runs. This signed piece is in wonderful over all condition. There are 3 small places where it looks like some of the tissue paper may be missing; however, it is hard to tell because of the abstract design and does not detract from its fabulous look. Its slat type original framing may need replaced or restored. Please see photos. Signed and dated on reverse Spring 1962. We love this mixed-media abstract 2D art piece aka painting!!!! It was done in 1962 by renowned Kansas artist, Richard Slimon. Its awesome color pallet reminds me of the golds of the Kansas wheat fields and the blues of the wide-open Kansas skies. On this large piece Slimon skillfully applied tissue paper and latex paint to create abstractions that play off each other and combine to make a gorgeous single image. This spectacular piece of art hung above a gorgeous Action Office desk in a most handsome Mid-Century Modern home since 1966 and was accompanied by the likes of a Burke office chair and Thayer Coggin Milo Baughman sofa till just weeks ago. Richard Slimon attended St. Louis School of Fine Art at Washington University where he received his BFA in painting. Soon after he received a graduate fellowship from the University of Wichita where he earned his MFA degree and served as teaching fellow. During this time, he served a short stint as Acting Director of the Wichita Art Museum. He has been the Artist-In-Residence at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. And is currently Professor Emeritus at Emporia State University, Emporia, Kansas where he taught drawing and painting for many years. Among his many awards is a purchase from the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters. This is an absolutely awesome example of mid-century abstract mixed-media original art. You need to make it yours. • Robert Bushong Silkscreen Wall Scroll Chanticleer for Tom Tru Raymor MCM
    Located in Topeka, KS
Wonderful Mid-Century Modern silkscreen wall scroll titled Chanticleer by Robert R. Bushong for Tom Tru and distributed by Raymor. It is in fantastic vintage condition and circa 1959. I’ve recently become attracted to roosters and chickens in general, and these regal characters are really great! This wall-hanging is depicted in the Tom Tru Spring wall scroll catalog for 1959. Attributed to Robert R. Bushong, although the signature on this one is missing the G. Since the signature is so close to the edge we believe the G just did not make it into the screen printing process. This example is what was advertised in the catalog as: powder, royal, sage, brown on black texture. Otherwise known as powder blue, royal blue, sage green, and brown. Its solid walnut top and bottom mouldings are just beautiful as are these fantastic chanticleer, the name for roosters especially in fairy tales. Robert Bushong...

  • Vintage Impressionist Painting Children on Horseback by Brooks Woollcott Powell
    Located in Topeka, KS
Incredible impressionist style painting on hardboard of children on horseback signed Brooks Woollcott (now Powell). It is in good original condition with its original black painted wood frame. We have stabilized the frame and added a new coat of paint, circa 1940-1960s. This original impressionistic painting has the most extraordinary color pallet from pink to coral, turquoise to blue, green to chartreuse, and bright yellow with touches of black. It depicts two children, seemingly a girl and boy, on horseback. It is done in the style of Chagall with a little Picasso and Matisse thrown in. It also has a feel of Margaret Keane and her Big Eyes paintings...
