About the Item
An antique diamond, platinum, and white gold brooch, comprising one large marquise shaped old cut diamond, twenty-three old cut diamonds, and four rose cut diamonds, in platinum and 9 karat white gold.
My favourite thing about this Antique Platinum and Yellow Gold Diamond Brooch, is the show-stopping marquise diamond. What’s yours? Perhaps the darling design? Or the beautiful case?
Mrs Newman is a renowned jeweller, not only made famous by her beautiful designs and fine work, but by the fact she was a successful woman in a male oriented world. This exquisite brooch is designed an elegant bar brooch, adorned with a plethora of sparkling old cut diamonds. The diamonds are held within platinum settings, edged with millegrain, and are bright, white, sparkly and well-matched with one another. The terminals are set with larger old European cut diamonds, similarly set. At the centre of the brooch is a diamond set bow, from which a large, marquise shaped, old cut diamond is suspended. The diamond is bright, white, and sparkly, with good clarity and colour, in a sought after chunky, marquise shape. This large diamond is held within a millegrain edged platinum setting, accentuating the brightness of the diamond further. The brooch is complete with a hinged pin and roller safety catch. The brooch is in good condition. The pin and catch are later replacements, and I believe the pin hinge would originally have sported the ‘Mrs N’ signature. The piece was a family heirloom, and the lady it was purchased from believes this to be the original case, as she remembers it being worn by her mother from her youth. As a result, it is attributed to Mrs Newman. Wear and tear acquiescent with age.
The brooch measures 15.5mm long, 51.5mm wide, and 3.5mm deep (excluding pin and fittings).
