About the Item
Antique Georgian Diamond, Topaz and Citrine Drop Earrings in Silver and Gold, Portuguese, Late 18th / Early 19th Century.
A rare and beautifully preserved pair of drop earrings, dating to late 18th or early 19th century Portugal, finely crafted in silver and yellow gold. Each earring is centered on a foiled, closed-back cushion-shaped topaz of warm honey hue, crowned by a stylized coronet of table-cut and rose-cut diamonds. The vibrant topaz surmount suspends a matching foiled pear-shaped citrine drop—its setting ingeniously closed to intensify the gem’s golden fire through the period’s technique of reflective backing.
These earrings are an exquisite example of Georgian artisanship, showcasing the era’s mastery of light through foil-enhancement and harmonious color compositions. The backs reveal traditional collet settings and domed mounts, with gold lever-back fittings.
