About the Item

Artistic necklace designed by Rena Koopman (1945-). An impressive bold sculptural piece, created by the American artist and goldsmith Rena Beatrice Koopman, back in the 1978. This necklace is an early work from her studio and a one-of-a-kind piece, crafted in solid sterling silver .925/.999. Featuring a braided semi rigid bold choker-chain, with a twisted security lock. Gemstone: Mounted in a bezel setting, with one oval cabochon cut (8 x 15 x 6 mm) of a natural translucent green cat's eye moonstone of 5.15 carats. Weight: 178.2 Grams (114.23 Dwt). Size: 15.5 Inches (39.37 Cm). Measurements: The main drop element has 139.7 mm by 76.71 mm by 24.2 mm (5.5 x 3.02 x 0.95 Inches). Hallmarks: Engraved in the reverse with her's early signature, "RENA BEATRICE KOOPMAN © 1978 STERLING" Rena Koopman, was educated as an art historian at Vassar College. Koopman visited Japan in the early 1970s to learn metalworking techniques. Koopman was dazzled both by the workmanship she observed and by the Japanese design aesthetic, which has since been the dominant influence on her work. Koopman shared her passion for Asian culture with her late husband Rad Smith, a Japanese sword enthusiast. “I see his influence in subtle things,” says Koopman, “like the shape of a necklace, which looks like the stones in our Japanese garden, and the swing of some of my earrings, which are like miniature swords.” Koopman creates works of beauty and serenity that will endure. “Satisfaction comes to me from the way shapes fit together visually and technically,” says the artist, “from colors of gold meeting and overlapping from lines and gestures that reflect light on the surface of the metal.” Provenance: Helen Drutt Gallery Philadelphia PA. The Robert L. Pfannebecker Collection. A private collection in Palm Beach Florida, USA. Collateral: They are accompanied by a presentation jewelry box. Condition: The overall condition of these earrings are excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to the gold. This piece has been carefully inspected to guarantee the condition and authenticity. INVENTORY REF: N120822MEEM/5.283
