Antique Art Nouveau Egyptian Revival Turquoise and 18 Karat Negligee Necklace
About the Item
This rare, exotic and striking antique Egyptian revival necklace dates back to the turn-of-the-20th-century, when Egyptian style was still all the rage. The center textured 18 karat yellow gold Egyptian motif element features a sizable, approximately 16mm x 10mm, oval bezel set cabochon turquoise flanked on each side by a Uraeus, a cobra representing the goddess Wadjet, whose lower portions curl into loops to suspend the two negligee dangles. At the top of the center are two Horus, featured as falcons, a significant deity in Egyptian mythology. The center element, approximately 1" x 1/2", suspends from a station style chain featuring twelve 4.70mm - 4.54mm turquoise beads alternating with ten stylized 18 karat 6.55mm x 6.5mm lotus flowers. The two negligee dangles each feature one 4.70mm - 4.54mm turquoise bead and one 8.6mm - 8.72mm turquoise bead. The cable chain is approximately 2.27mm wide and is 18" long; the negligee drops are approximately 1.75" and 1.5" respectively. The pendant has a total weight of 21.7 grams.
While the necklace is 18 karat yellow gold, the spring ring clasp is in 14 karat yellow gold.
