About the Item

An authentic ancient Greek silver tetradrachm from Tralleis in ancient Lydia (now the city of Aydin in central western Turkey) depicts 2 intertwined serpents rising in the cista mystica. The cista mystica was a woven basket that contained the sacred objects pertaining to the the worship of Bacchis (Dionysos), which was common throughout Asia Minor. It was the custom of young girls of high rank to bear this this mystic chest at public festivals. This fascinating coin from between 140-135 BC is set in a Steven Battelle designed sterling silver and 18K gold wire setting with the coiled gold wires holding the coin in complementary fashion. This pendant is sent with a laminated lifetime coin certificate of authenticity. The oxidized silver and 18K gold handmade chain shown is not included but can be ordered additionally. It comes 18, 20, and 24 inch lengths. We discount our chains 20% when ordered with a pendant. Mystical and Historic!
