Ancient Greek 4th Century BC Ephesus Bee Coin 18K Gold Pendant

About the Item

An authentic silver "tetradrachm" coin from 390-330 BC Ephesus rests in this Steven Battelle designed ancient-inspired large/small double twist wire handmade setting. Ephesus was an ancient Greek colony established in what is now the western coast of Turkey. It was one of the primary cities of the region throughout ancient times, continuing through the Romans. The ruins there are often visited today. According to the ancient writer Philostratus, when the Athenians first came to colonize Ephesus, they were led by the Muses, who took the shape of bees. The bee and the deer were also sacred to the goddess Artemis, the patron goddess of Ephesus. The 2 Greek letters, Epsilon and Phi, on either side of the bee, are an abbreviation for Ephesus. This pendant comes with a lifetime laminated coin certificate of authenticity. The 18K handmade hammered chain is not included but can be ordered additionally. It comes in 18, 20 and 24 inch lengths. We discount our chains 20% when ordered with a pendant. A beautiful and historic piece!
