About the Item

An authentic early archaic Greek silver "drachm" coin from Ephesus is held in a hammered and textured doubled bezel design in this beautiful Steven Battelle designed pendant. Ephesus was an ancient Greek colony established in what is now the western coast of Turkey. It was one of the primary cities of the region throughout ancient times, continuing through the Romans. The ruins there are often visited today. The bee and the deer were sacred to Artemis, the patron goddess of Ephesus. Artemis is the Olympian goddess of the hunt, the moon, and chastity; in time, she also became associated with childbirth and nature. This piece comes with a laminated coin certificate of authenticity. The chain shown is not included but can be ordered additionally. We discount chains 20% when ordered with a pendant
