About the Item
An antique tortoiseshell, and gold travel comb, comprising a comb of tortoiseshell, mounted in 18 karat yellow gold, with an 18 karat yellow gold hinged handle.
This unique comb is ever so beautiful. The comb itself is crafted in tortoiseshell, with beautiful marbling of browns, ranging from dark to light. The comb is mounted in yellow gold, which is engraved with beautiful floral and swirling motifs. At one end is a hinge, which allows the comb to open, revealing an elegant, slim handle, which is also engraved with beautiful floral and scrolling motifs. The comb folds into the handle, protecting the teeth of the comb from damage. A truly exquisite piece of craftsmanship, a very scarce piece, of a truly exquisite design, which I have not seen the likes of before. The comb is in excellent condition, with no missing teeth or damage to the teeth (as is common with pieces such as this), just a small amount of wear in-keeping with age and use, and the gold mount is in great condition too. Wear and tear acquiescent with age.
