Antique Victorian 1840s 18K Gold Diamond, Pearl and Black Enamel Mourning Ring
About the Item
An antique yellow gold, pearl, black enamel and diamond ring, comprising of one sparkling old mine cut diamond set in centre of a black enamelled panel, four larger pearls, two smaller pearls and 10 tiny pearls, set in 18 karat yellow gold, on a band of 18 karat yellow gold.
The central sparkling diamond is set in a field of black enamel, which is in excellent condition. Four lustrous pearls are set to each of the four corners and a trio of smaller pearls are set North, South, East and West, between the larger pearls. The shoulders of the ring are elegantly split and are complete with black enamel. The back of the band is elegantly reeded and wonderfully crisp Victorian hallmarks are displayed on the inside of the band, with another to the outside. Verso, there would have originally been a locket panel, which would have likely contained a lock of hair belonging to the deceased. The memorial engraving on the inside of the band reads “In memory of Jane Gulliver Ob 15 Nov 1844”. This ring is in good condition, with minimal nacre loss to the pearls. Wear and tear acquiescent with age.
The head of the ring measures approximately 15.5mm long and 14.5mm wide. The band is just over 2mm wide at the back.
