Australian Opal, Diamond Ring
About the Item
This gorgeous -and huge- opal and diamond halo ring features a brilliantly colorful, solid and natural opal from Australia that is consistent with opals from the mines in Coober Pedy, Australia. Featuring brilliant flashes of blue, purple, red, orange, violet, yellow, green -and every color in-between- this is a truly exceptional opal.
The opal has no cracks or crazing; only a pristine, gleaming polish. It measures approximately 16.32mm x 13.92mm x 6mm and weighs approximately 8 carats. The glorious, magical stone is held securely in place by 18 elegant 14K yellow gold prongs, which reflect the warmth of the opal gem. The remainder of the mounting is 14K white gold. 20 small, bright white (E/F) and clean (VS2-VS) weigh a total of approximately 1 carat and add just the right about of fire.
This opal is spectacular in direct light, but it is also spectacular in the lowest light. As if it is not only "illuminated from within" but electrified.
This treasure of a bauble weighs a substantial 10 grams and is a size 6 ¾ but could be resized by your local jeweler.
While there is no maker's mark, the metal fineness mark of 14k was hand-inscribed and the ring itself was entirely hand-fabricated by a master jeweler.
The individual from whom I acquired the gem believes it was created in the 1990s. It looks as if it has never been worn.
Resizing is available.

Black Opal, Diamond Pendant, Lightning Ridge, Australia, Vivid Red Flash
Located in Southbury, CT
Black opals from the Lightning Ridge mines in Australia are the rarest and most valuable opals on earth. And Lightning Ridge black opals that display a vivid red flash are the most valuable opals of all.
This pendant is a perfect example of why these rare, precious opals are so coveted. With a superb cut and gleaming high polish, this solid (not a double or a triplet) Australian black opal from the Lightning Ridge mines has an organic, loosely triangular form and weighs approximately 2.42 carats. The gem flashes brilliant, vivid red, yellow, turquoise, purple and cobalt blue. The natural beauty of the stone has been maximized to its most magnificent potential by a skilled lapidary artist. Set within a custom 18k yellow gold frame -that exposes the rear of the opal, so that you can see with your own eyes that this is a solid black opal- and featuring a bail set with a .03ct VS brilliant round diamond. A 20" .4mm solid 18K Italian gold chain...
