GIA Certified 1.22 Carat Older Cut Diamond in Modern Platinum Engagement Ring
About the Item
Eytan Brandes made this engagement ring for a customer in 2016. She provided the center diamond -- it's a brilliant cut, but an early iteration, and very light brown in color. This customer is an avid gardener and kept misplacing the ring because she would take it off before grabbing ye olde spade and shovel. After three years, she traded the ring back to us for a custom flush-set ring that better suited her horticultural-heavy lifestyle, but her aunt's diamond didn't work with the new design, so we can now offer this three-stone-plus engagement ring.
Rather than replacing the center stone with a matching modern diamond, we decided that the subtle contrast in diamond types might be interesting for diamond lovers, and the attractive price might be interesting for value lovers.
According to The Gardening Lady, the center stone is at least 100 years old. We recently removed it to get it certified and the GIA did not verify the stone as an old European cut, but did verify two out of four factors for that designation, putting the stone squarely in the post-1870, pre-1950 No Man's Land when the brilliant cut hadn't quite left behind all of the characteristics of its OEC antecedents.
The GIA report is included with the ring and verifies the center diamond at 1.22 carats, SI1 clarity and and N (very light brown) color. More details are in the report, shown in the photo array.
All of the other stones are modern white brilliant cuts. The ten neatly set shoulder stones are high-quality melee, 0.06 carats apiece.
The two side stones are 0.28 carats each, VS1 clarity and G color.
The cathedral-style setting is platinum and very substantial.
After a four-year false start with The Gardening Lady, this ring is ready for full-time employment as a beautiful engagement or anniversary ring that will last for generations to come.

MARKS: The inside of the band is stamped "PT" for platinum
SIZE: Currently, this ring is a size 7.5. Resizing is complimentary for full-price buyers and is otherwise negotiable. If you need a radical resizing from 7.5, please let us know upfront so Eytan can do a risk assessment.
WEIGHT: The ring weighs 9.6 grams. The total diamond weight is 2.38 carats.
In addition to complimentary resizing and the GIA certificate, this ring comes with an appraisal for insurance purposes.

- Condition:Polished. This ring was made in our shop about four years ago. The center diamond is from the early 1900s. The other diamonds are modern. After buying the ring back from the customer, we cleaned and polished it, so it is in excellent condition.
