French Art Deco Glass & Silver Pitcher by Lagarde & Fortin

About the Item

A French Art Deco ewer or pitcher crafted from thick-cut glass and macassar wood with a stylised silver floral frieze. The piece was crafted by Lagarde & Fortin of 5 Rue Froissart, Paris which was operating between 1922 and 1928. The piece is marked with the French minerva mark for 950 silver purity and the maker's mark for Lagarde & Fortin. The heavy glass body presents with some fleabite chips to the edges, however these are not immediately noticeable and can only be seen when closely inspected. There are some minor losses to the varnish and finish of the macassar. The piece is watertight and could be used if desired, with care. A beautiful example of the beauty that the French were producing in the 1920s and 1930s. Marked - Minerva mark for 950 silver purity, as well as the L&F maker's initial inside a diamond shield. Measures - 30.5cm H
