Pierced Sterling Silver Bonbon/Nut Dish by James Dixon & Sons Ltd, 1917

About the Item

In good vintage condition, this bowl has beautiful openwork and a patterned border. It stands on a round pedestal foot. The body is pierced with a lovely openwork pattern interspersed with scroll and flower decoration rising to a rim with further scroll decoration. Originally intended for wrapped sweets, this beautiful dish could be used for nuts or snacks, for potpourri or simply as a decorative item in its own right. Hallmarked: Made by James Dixon & Sons Ltd in Cornish Place, Sheffield in 1917. James Dixon founded his company with partner Thomas Smith around 1806. In the 1820s, Smith withdrew and was replaced by James Dixon's eldest son, followed by his other sons and the James Dixon & Sons name was established. The firm was highly successful and remained in business until the 1980s when it was absorbed into British Silverware. Additional Information: Silver Weight: 167.2g Size: 17.5cm diameter.
