Very Fine & Rare - Supremely Elegant - 1 Year Warranty
We are proud to showcase the timelessly classic Patek Philippe wristwatch showcased in today's offering. It features an elegant curved case and silver dial with Arabic numerals.
It is a vintage Patek that embodies class. Its narrow case slides nicely under a shirt cuff and doesn't draw a lot of attention to itself.
Because many vintage Pateks came with plain dials, Pateks with numeral dials are seen less often - and in our opinion often more handsome.
Like a "Curvex", the special rectangular case was made with a slightly curved back so to be more comfortable to the wearer. While the sides of its sculpted case look stairstepped, they're actually concaved which we think adds an extra touch of elegance and craftsmanship.
It is powered by one of Patek Philippe's illustrious 9'90 movements, so well designed that Patek used it for more than 40 years. The 9'90 Patek Philippe movement is a tonneau shaped movement introduced in 1934 and was fitted into many famous Patek Philippe watches such as the "Banana" (ref. 2442), the "Eiffel Tower " (ref. 2441), and the "Tegolino".
This pleasing Patek captures our hearts. Its original handwound Patek movement has eight adjustments - five for chronometer positions and three for heat, cold, and isochronism.
We were fortunate to acquire it with original parts down to the hour and minute hands and winding crown.
Its 18K gold case is in excellent condition with light wear and signs of previous polishing. It retains a strong 18K hallmark on the side.
Its silver dial shows only fairly light aging, mostly limited to around the numerals. We acquired the watch from a well-known and well-regarded long-time large dealer who believes the dial finish is original. We tend to think it was well-refinished long ago, but many will think it is original.
One of our Master watchmakers has disassembled it down to its last screw and serviced it. Its extremely high grade movement is running strong and keeping very time nearly on par with a new Patek in our testing recording position.
For the finishing touch, we have equipped it with a brand new handcrafted leather strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Included with the purchase is a one-year international warranty on the movement and its function, a Certificate of Authenticity from eBay's authentication service, and a new timing certificate attesting to the watch's performance. Also accompanying the watch is an authentication card from eBay's authenticators / Stoll & Co. ($80 value).

Patek Philippe
It shouldn’t be surprising that a Patek Philippe holds the world auction record for a watch ($31.2 million for a Patek Grandmaster Chime, sold at Christie’s). Known for impeccable craftsmanship and some of the most complicated timepieces ever created, the brand is considered by many to be the height of fine watchmaking. Collectors simply love Patek Philippe watches.
The house was founded in Geneva in 1839 by Polish expats Antoni Patek and Franciszek Czapek. Czapek left the firm, and in 1845, Patek partnered with French watchmaker Jean Adrien Philippe. It was the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
Catering to the glitterati of Europe, the pair counted among their clients Tolstoy, Pope Pius IX and Queen Victoria, as well as Countess Koscowicz of Hungary, for whom they created the first Swiss-made wristwatch in 1868. They also had their eye on the American market and in 1851 entered an arrangement with Tiffany & Co. still in effect today.
During the Great Depression, brothers Jean and Charles Stern, who had previously supplied Patek Philippe with watch dials, bought the company, and it continues to be run by the Stern family today.
Under the Sterns, the house has developed some of its most famous models, including the Calatrava, an elegantly minimal dress watch introduced in 1932 and named for the Calatrava Cross (the company’s logo since 1887), and the Nautilus, the brand’s first sports watch, conceived by legendary designer Gérald Genta in 1976.
Despite the house’s longevity, it’s rumored that it has manufactured fewer than a million Patek watches, making each one all the more coveted. (The brand's pieces are understandably attractive to counterfeiters — make sure you know how to spot a fake Patek Philippe watch.)
