In the early 1930's at the height of the depression, a competing jeweler in our neighborhood sent in a "shill" to buy a Hamilton Watch from us. We had discounted the watch by 10%, which was illegal at the time, but everyone did it to survive. Hamilton terminated our contract for this however.
We quickly turned to the Gruen Watch Company, and we became Gruen Agents in Los Angeles California. Gruen was a great company to work with because they had large collection, great styling, they were innovative and offered great service to their customers. We considered it a "blessing in disguise."
A few months later the competing jeweler in the area went out of business. Hamilton came back to us and made us a proposal and asked us to take their line back. But, we so happy with Gruen that we told to "no thanks."
