The air gives it shape and fills it, in return the leather gives it the image and protects it. They become two disparate elements, opposed, but working in symbiosis. Characteristic of the material that covers us all living beings, and that at the same time has served as a protector and container in all human cultures. In this case, the leather protects something as ethereal and delicate as the air.
BA in Industrial Design. In 1996, Jordi Ribaudí founded Estudi Ribaudí, which specializes in product design, furniture and lighting. As an interior designer, he collaborates with well-known fashion brands.
In 2005, he started the restoration of a 19th century tannery, where he moved his studio and which in turn became an exhibition and promotion space for Igualada’s old industrial district.
Since 2009, he has been promoting REC.0, an innovative project to give visibility to architectural heritage through the temporary installation of “pop up” shops in abandoned tanneries.
As a result of this project, he started to contact and make friends with the tanners in the area, get to know their work and the possibilities of the material. He begins to explore and experiment with leather. Finally in 2015 he starts the TORU project. A mixture of ideas and sensations turned into objects.

Dutch industrial designer Gijs Bakker had already established a reputation for his aluminum jewelry when he decided to turn his attention to designing a chair. Inspired by a competition held by Dunlop, the rubber foam manufacturer, Bakker took a piece of foam, bent it at a 90 degree angle, and fixed it in a metal frame. The result was the GB Lounge, a modular lounge chair whose simple silhouette is enhanced by invitingly overstuffed upholstery.
Originally coined “the Levi’s Chair,” Bakker was determined that his design – much like a pair of well-loved jeans – would act as an easygoing antidote to the previous generation’s stiffer tastes. Today, its functionality has been enhanced further with the addition of feet that raise it slightly from the floor for added comfort. Available as a one-seater chair, or with the addition of a pouf, the GB Lounge can be arranged in a variety of ways by connectors that transform it from a solo chair into a multiple seating system.
GB Lounge can be upholstered with textiles from Cassina.
