Singing in the Bath, Tenakee Springs
Located in San Francisco, CA
This artwork titled "Singing in the Bath, Tenakee Springs" 1996 is a color offset lithograph on paper by noted American artist Rie Mounier Munoz, 1921-2015. It is hand signed and numbered 1077/1100 in pencil by the artist. The image size is 13.5 x 10 inches, sheet size is 16 x 12.35 inches. It is in excellent condition, has never been framed. About the artist: Alaska painter Rie Mounier Munoz was the child of Dutch parents who immigrated to California, where she was born and raised. She is known for her colorful scenes of everyday life in Alaska. Rie (from Marie) Munoz (moo nyos), studied art at Washington and Lee University in Virginia. In 1950, she traveled up the Inside Passage by steamship, fell in love with Juneau, and gave herself until the boat left the next day to find a job and a place to live. Since then Juneau has been home to Munoz. She began painting small vignettes of Alaska soon after arriving in Juneau, and also studied art at the University of Alaska-Juneau. Munoz painted in oils in what she describes as a "painstakingly realistic" style, which she found stiff and "somewhat boring." Her breakthrough came a few years later when an artist friend introduced her to a versatile, water-soluble paint called casein. The immediacy of this inexpensive medium prompted an entirely new style. Rie's paintings became colorful and carefree, mirroring her own optimistic attitude toward life. With her newfound technique she set about recording everyday scenes of Alaskans at work and at play. Of the many jobs she has held journalist, teacher, museum curator, artist, mother, Munoz recalls one of her most memorable was as a teacher on King Island in 1951, where she taught 25 Eskimo children. The island was a 13-hour umiak (a walrus skin boat) voyage from Nome, an experience she remembers vividly. After teaching in the Inupiat Eskimo village on the island with her husband during one school year, she felt a special affinity for Alaska's Native peoples and deliberately set about recording their traditional lifestyles that she knew to be changing very fast. For the next twenty years, Rie practiced her art as a "Sunday painter," in and around prospecting with her husband, raising a son, and working as a freelance commercial artist, illustrator, cartoonist, and curator of exhibits for the Alaska State Museum. During her years in Alaska, Munoz has lived in a variety of small Alaskan communities, including prospecting and mining camps. Her paintings reflect an interest in the day-to-day activities of village life such as fishing, berry picking, children at play, as well as her love of folklore and legends. Munoz says that what has appealed to her most were "images you might not think an artist would want to paint," such as people butchering crab, skinning a seal, or doing their laundry in a hand-cranked washing machine. In 1972, with her hand-cut stencil and serigraph prints selling well in four locations in Alaska, she felt confident enough to leave her job at the Alaska State Museum and devote herself full time to her art. Freed from the constraints of an office job, she began to produce close to a hundred paintings a year, in addition to stone lithograph and serigraph prints. From her earliest days as an artist, Rie had firm beliefs about selling her work. First, she insisted the edition size should be kept modest. When she decided in 1973 to reproduce Eskimo Story Teller as an offset lithography print and found the minimum print run to be 500, she destroyed 200 of the prints. She did the same with King Island, her second reproduction. Reluctantly, to meet market demand, she increased the edition size of the reproductions to 500 and then 750. The editions stayed at that level for almost ten years before climbing to 950 and 1250. Her work has been exhibited many solo watercolor exhibits in Alaska, Oregon and Washington State, including the Charles and Emma Frye Art Museum, Alaska State Museum in Juneau, Anchorage Historical and Fine Arts Museum, Tongass Historical Museum in Ketchikan, and Yukon Regional Library in Whitehorse; Yukon Territory, and included in exhibits at the Smithsonian Institute and Russell Senate Office Building in Washington, D.C. Munozs paintings have graced the covers of countless publications, from cookbooks to mail order catalogs, and been published in magazines, newspapers, posters, calendars, and two previous collections of her work: Rie Munoz...

Jupiter 4
By Rafael Bogarin
Located in San Francisco, CA
Artist: Rafael Bogarin – Venezuelan (1946- ) Title: Jupiter 4 Year: 1980 Medium: Screen Print Sight size: 19.5 x 25.5 inches. Sheet size: 22.5 x 28.5 inches. Signature: Signed lower right Edition: 295 This one: 116/295 Condition: Excellent Unframed This exceptional geometric abstract serigraph is by the noted Venezuelan artist Rafael Bogarin (1946- ). This is Jupiter 4. I have others from the series, also for sale. The print has never been framed and is in excellent condition. It measures 22.5" x 28.5". Rafael Bogarin is an established contemporary Venezuelan artist known for his abstract serigraphs. Bogarin was born in 1946, in El Tigre, where he grew up making his own toys and learning to draw. He studied in Caracas at the Cristobal Rojas School of Fine Arts, specializing in lithography and etching. From 1970 to 1992, Bogarin, like so many artists, lived in New York. As he explored various techniques, he became an expert in serigraphs, earning himself acclaim in Latin America as a pioneer. In South America he traveled the continent giving classes and learning about native cultures. When he returned to the land of his youth, he was inspired to create the concept of the entire world in the Museo Vial in El Tigre in 1982. Later he made others along the route between Colombia and Venezuela. Recently he has been creating and realizing ideas like the Museo de Murales a Cielo Abierto (Museum of Murals to the Open Sky). Detailed biographical information (source: artist's website): Rafael Bogarín was born in El Tigre, Anzoátegui state, Venezuela, on January 20, 1946. He studied at the Cristóbal Rojas School, which he finished in 1966; Among his teachers are Luis Guevara Moreno, Pedro León Zapata, Luisa Palacios and Luis Chacón. Upon returning from school he founded the Zapato Roto group with other artists, with the aim of taking art to the streets. In 1966 he directed the outdoor exhibitions of the Venezuelan American Center, and two years later he participated in the XXVIII Official Salon, where he received the Rome Prize. During that time he ordered elements such as nuts and serrated blades in relation to discs engraved with burin and other techniques, and made the final impression in planes of one color. In 1970 he received a scholarship and traveled to New York; He studies at the Pratt Graphic Center and the Blackburn Printmaking Workshop. In 1973 he founded, together with Manuel Kohn, the Bogarín Printmaking Workshop, a workplace for Venezuelan artists living in the United States; This workshop, of which he has been master printer, allowed continuity to his artistic work. Bogarín investigates the possibilities of super eight cinema and makes films with quality similar to commercial formats; From these experiences emerge The Lonely World (1975) and New World Symphony (1976). In 1977 he deepened his study of color with The New Color, a portfolio where he produced superimposed colors through transparencies and glazes. His teaching experience includes courses at the Rafael Monasterios School of Plastic Arts in Maracay (1969-1970), Ceagraf (1979), as well as workshops in various cities around the world. In 1980 he made an exhibition of silkscreen prints in cities in Italy, El Salvador, Colombia, Mexico and the United States. That year he resumed his interest in outdoor exhibitions with a museum project with murals by 30 artists for El Tigre (Venezuela); The Rafael Bogarín Road Museum was inaugurated in 1982 and brought together 30 murals on 2 x 4 meter fences, by artists such as Mario Toral, Édgar Sánchez and Paul Davis. He carried out the project to recover the architectural spaces of El Tigre (Venezuela), through murals, sculptures, plazas and humanized spaces. In 2006 he painted the largest painted flag in the world in El Tigre, Venezuela. Bogarín has exhibited his work on all 5 continents and currently lives and works in Panama City in his private workshop and in the Articruz workshop. Individual exhibitions Ø 1966. She Disappeared into Complete Silence (AD6329) - figurative landscape photograph
By Mona Kuhn
Located in San Francisco, CA
In the series 'She Disappeared into Complete Silence' (2014) Mona Kuhn takes a new direction into abstraction. She turns to a highly austere and restrained reductionist geometry and distilled formal purity, connecting the interior to the exterior, the visible to the hidden. These reflections cause one to linger, as they merge to create a dynamic equilibrium of tension, spaces and rythms. AD6329 (She Disappeared into Complete Silence) 60" x 45" / 152cm x 114cm edition of 8 + 2AP 40" x 30" / 102cm x 76cm edition of 8 + 2AP limited edition photograph is printed under artist supervision and accompanied by signed artist certificate: artist signature labels are 8x10 in size signed, editioned, dated and titled by the artist, and stamped for authenticity label __________________ About the artist Acclaimed for her contemporary depictions, Kuhn is considered a leading artist in the world of figurative discourse. Throughout a career spanning more than twenty years, the underlying theme of her work is her reflection on humanity’s longing for spiritual connection and solidarity. As she solidified her photographic style, Kuhn created a notable approach to the nude by developing friendships with her subjects, and employing a range of playful visual strategies that use natural light and minimalist settings to evoke a sublime sense of comfort between the human figure and its environment. Her work is natural, restful, and a reinterpretation of the nude in the canon of contemporary art. For the past two decades, the Los-Angeles based artist's works have been shown steadily, revealing an astonishing consistency in technique, of subject and of purpose. In 2001, Kuhn’s photographs were first seen by an influential audience during the exhibition at Charles Cowles Gallery in Chelsea, New York. Kuhn’s distinct aesthetic has propelled her as one of the most collectible contemporary art photographers—her work is in private and public collections worldwide and she is represented by galleries across the United States, Europe and Asia. Kuhn was born in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1969, of German descent. In 1989, Kuhn moved to the US and earned her BA from The Ohio State University, before furthering her studies at the San Francisco Art Institute. She is currently an independent scholar at The Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles. Occasionally, Mona teaches at UCLA and the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Mona Kuhn’s first monograph, Photographs, was debuted by Steidl in 2004; followed by Evidence (2007), Native (2010), Bordeaux Series (2011), Private (2014), and She Disappeared into Complete Silence (2018/19). In addition, Stanley/Barker Editions published Kuhn's Bushes and Succulents (2018) with a debut at Musee Jeu de Paume in Paris in 2019. Thames & Hudson published a career retrospective titled Works. Kuhn's most recent publication Kings Road with Steidl accompanies a multi-dimensional museum exhibition in Germany and the US. Mona Kuhn’s work is in private and public collections worldwide, including The J. Paul Getty Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Hammer Museum, the Perez Art Museum in Miami, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and the Kiyosato Museum in Japan. Kuhn's work has been exhibited at The Louvre Museum and Le Bal in Paris, The Whitechapel Gallery and Royal Academy of Arts in London, Musée de l’Elysée in Switzerland, Leopold Museum in Vienna Austria, The Polygon Gallery in Vancouver Canada, Australian Centre for Photography and Taipei Fine Arts Museum in Taiwan. Mona Kuhn currently lives and works in Los Angeles. __________________ Solo Exhibitions 2024 Mona Kuhn: Between Modernism and Surrealism, Houk Gallery, New York, NY 2023 Mona Kuhn: Kings Road, Galerie XII, Paris, France Mona Kuhn: Kings Road, Kunsthaus-Göttingen, Germany Mona Kuhn: Kings Road, Jackson Fine Art...

Barlow's humor, joy, and ability to see far beyond the surface, comes into play in her work. She skews traditional portraiture to capture individuals and ideas, with her unique, contemporary Pop Realism style. The painting from Barlow's children...
