Sheet size: 29.5 x 22 inches Signature: Signed, lower right Condition: Very good Unframed This artwork is an original color lithograph on Japon paper by noted Indian artist Kaiko Moti, (1921-1989). It is hand signed and numbered I/C (1/100) by the artist.. It is in very good condition and it appears that it has never been framed. There are two light creases in the upper left and right corners, each about 1/2" long. Born (Kaikobad Motiwalla) in Bombay, India on December 15, 1921, Moti was first educated at the Bombay School of Fine Arts but his talent led him onwards to study at the University College in London (on scholarship) and at the Slade School of Fine Arts, London, where he received a Master's degree in Painting and Sculpture. While still in London he studied under MacWilliam and Reginald Butler. Eventually moving to Paris in 1950, Moti attended the Academie de la Grand Chaumiere, Atelier Zadkine, to pursue his love of sculpture but lack of space soon compelled him to turn his attention to working on copper plates and he studied engraving with William Stanley Hayter at Atelier 17. While working as an apprentice at the Hayter School, Moti innovated the principal of viscosity printing. Influenced mainly by the Old Masters and, in particular, by Turner, Moti is today recognized by many to be one of the premier engravers in the world. He claims, however, to have no secret techniques, only to have refined the basic methods, learning from each work he creates. He has exhibited internationally at the Biennale in Venice, the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris, the New York Public Library, the New Delhi Museum of Art, the Basel Art Fair and Art Expo New York. His work is held in numerous collections worldwide, including in the permanent collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Paris Musee d'Art Moderne, and the Bibliotheque Nationale and is an honorary member of the Academy of Florence. In 1983 Moti was awarded the gold medal for the Competition d'Art Impressioniste, Musee d'Argenteiul, France.

    By Beniamino Bufano

Artist: Beniamino Bufano (1889-1970) Title: Laura Year: 1970 Medium: Lithograph Image size: 18 x 12.25 inches Sight size: 19.5 x 13.5 inches. Framed size: 27 x 21 inches Signature: Signed, lower right Edition: 125. This one: 83/125 Condition: Very good Frame: Framed in black lacquer frame, black mat. Frame in good condition. This fine lithograph is by Beniamino Bufano (1889-1970), a well-known artist in the San Francisco Bay Area. The Museo Italo-Americano has this work in their permanent collection and indicates that it was pulled in 1970 at he Bank Street Atelier in New York in 1970. The print is in very good condition. The frame is in good condition with some light scratches. Beniamino Benvenuto Bufano was born in San-Fele, Italy on Oct. 14, 1889. At age three Bufano's family brought him to NYC where he spent his childhood and was educated by private tutors. He studied at the ASL in NYC from 1913-15, the pupil of James L. Fraser, Herbert Adams, and Paul Manship. He came to San Francisco in 1915 to work on a sculpture for the PPIE. For awhile he worked in the studio of coppersmith Dirk van Erp. He then traveled extensively for four years in France, Italy, India, and China. After returning to San Francisco in 1921, he remained there the rest of his life except for visits to the Orient and Europe. Always a radical, he lost his teaching position at San Francisco Institute of Art in 1923 because he was too modern for the conservative faculty. He later taught at UC Berkeley and the CCAC (1964-65). Henry Miller wrote of him, "He will outlive our civilization and probably be better known, better understood, both as a man and artist, five thousand years hence." His work, simple in style and monumental in scale, includes smoothly rounded animals in granite and icons sheathed in stainless steel. Only five feet tall, Bufano was a controversial, free spirit until his death in San Francisco on Aug. 16, 1970. Member: SFAA; NSS; American Artists Congress. Exh: Whitney Museum (NYC), 1917; Arden Gallery...

  • Little Chinese Girl
    By Ming Wai
    Located in San Francisco, CA
This artwork "Little Chinese Girl" 1982 in a color off set lithograph by renown Chinese/American artist Wai Ming A.K.A Lo Hing Kwok, b.1938. It is hand signed an inscribed A.C (Hors Commerce) in pencil by the artist. The image size is 24.5 x 22 inches, sheet size is 28 x 24.5 inches. It is in excellent condition, has never been framed. About the artist: Wai Ming, was born in Canton, South China on November 11, 1938, the son of a school master with nine children. Extremely poor as a child, he was raised in Hong Kong enduring many hardships amidst a chaotic environment of war and refugee settlements. Wai Ming's love for art flourished and he developed his drawing techniques without any art education, just painting what he saw. In the 1960s, Ming found representation in Hong Kong and also took the unusual step of opening his own gallery to display his work in. His primary interest being to capture images of life in fishing villages, or 'fish-folk', who have retained traditional Chinese culture, his work was at home with the sensibilities of many art buyers in Hong Kong. Crossing the ocean in his mid-30s, Wai Ming arrived in San Francisco from Hong Kong in 1974. There, he experienced initial resistance from galleries and the official art world for a variety of reasons, but was ultimately embraced by dealer Jack Swanson...
