Artist Commentary: Years ago while on a hunt for compositions to photograph, I came across a splattered wall. I was in an industrial area in northeast Los Angeles and driving through an alley behind some warehouses. I stopped in front of a wall that had tar running down from a roof that had undergone some repairs. The tar patterns reminded me of art by Joan Mitchell or Jackson Pollock. Maria C. Bernhardsson is a colorful artist who lives and paints in Sweden. Most of her works are influenced by the architecture and geometry of houses. In many cases, the different layers of color each represent a temporary state of mind, time, and even feelings, places, and people. To represent the firmness and strength of that past the cotton is mixed with the paint in the works to form a unity.
