Located in Colorado Springs, CO
Presented is a wonderful inscribed color photo of the inauguration of George H.W. Bush as the 41st President of the United States held on January 20, 1989. Pinocchio: The Story of a Puppet by C. Collodi, Illustrated by Kirk, Deluxe Ed.
Located in Colorado Springs, CO
Collodi, Carlo. Pinocchio: The Story of a Puppet. Philadelphia and London: J. B. Lippincott, 1920. Illustrated by Maria L. Kirk. Deluxe Edition. In the publisher's original green cloth front board stamped with gilt titles and Pinocchio illustration, the original tan cloth spine lettered in gilt, rebacked in green cloth. With 14 color plates and numerous border illustrations and decoration throughout. Presented with a new archival slipcase. Presented is a charming English edition of Carlo Collodi’s children’s tale, Pinocchio: The Story of a Puppet. This book was published in Philadelphia and London by J. B. Lippincott, as a special "Deluxe Edition," in 1920. It features 14 full color plates by illustrator Maria Kirk and charming green borders and chapter decorations throughout the whole book. It is presented here in its original green cloth front board, stamped with gilt titles and Pinocchio illustration, the original tan cloth spine with gilt titles, newly rebacked in green cloth. The book is protected by a new custom archival slipcase with an inlay of Pinocchio in a forest. Collodi’s La Storia di un Burattino (trans: The Story of a Puppet) first appeared in serial form in the Italian weekly publication for children, Giornale per i bambini. The first installment was published on July 7, 1881 and continued for nearly four months and 15 chapters. Following the mischievous adventures of an animated marionette named Pinocchio, the original series was written as an educational tale of warning to Italian children, stressing the importance of morality, responsibility, and obedience to one’s parents and authority. In the original, serialized version, the flawed and irresponsible Pinocchio is penalized and hanged for his numerous poor decisions and faults of character at the end of Chapter 15. At the request of his editor and by the demand of his many readers, Collodi resumed his serialized story in February of 1882. In these later chapters, Chapters 16–36, the Fairy with Turquoise Hair rescues and revives Pinocchio and eventually transforms him into a real boy. Pinocchio acquires a deeper understanding of himself and his moral responsibilities, making the story more palatable for children. In February 1883, the story was published in Italy as a single book, illustrated by Enrico Mazzanti. It was a huge publishing success. The Adventures of Pinocchio is the world's third most translated book, after the Bible and The Little Prince. Pinocchio was first translated into English by Mary Alice Murray in 1892, whose translation was added to the widely circulated Everyman's Library in 1911. The first US edition was published in 1901, translated and illustrated by Walter S. Cramp and Charles Copeland...

"The United States from the Latest Authorities" Antique Wall Map, 1835
Located in Colorado Springs, CO
This is a 1835 map of “The United States from the Latest Authorities” by Ezra Strong. A hand-colored engraved wall map of the eastern half of the United States, this map has a large inset of the "Oregon District" and several engraved city views and two portraits. The primary map extends to Mexico Texas and the Missouri Territory, showing the course of the Missouri River to Ft. Mandan and Old Ft. Mandan, and noting many forts along the river. The territories to the east of Missouri Territory are separately delineated as Sioux District and Huron District. The western details of the map are very good for a map of this time period, with many Native American settlements, villages, forts and other details noted. The map is bordered with vignettes of Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Hartford, Cincinnati, and Baltimore. Each vignette notes the date settled, primary settler, and the population as of 1830. Two portraits of LaFayette and George Washington are presented in full length with related biographical information. A large inset map at lower right shows the Oregon District, centered on the Columbia River and extending to the Rocky Mountains. This is one of the earliest commercial appearances of a separate map of Oregon...

Hallmarked Silver Plated Keepsake Box, Sheffield, UK, circa 1900
Located in Colorado Springs, CO
Offered is a stunning silver plated keepsake box dating to 1900, with associated hallmark. This small box includes a wooden interior with two slots and a blank square on top where initials could have been engraved. A well maintained, elegant piece, this antique silver box is an excellent addition to any silver or home decor collection. Trinket or keepsake boxes have taken on many forms since their first conception in ancient times. However their purpose remains the same; to store jewelry and other items precious to the owner. Originally, these boxes were used specifically for jewelry. These were in common use as early as 5000 BC in Ancient Egypt, when the majority of Egyptians, both male and female, wore jewelry. Boxes were used to keep these gemstone encrusted items safe. In Ancient Rome, jewelry was a status symbol. Rings and brooches were utilized to represent ones status in society. Again, boxes were needed for security and storage purposes. Finding early examples of these are quite rare. Victorian and Edwardian examples of trinket boxes are far more common. This is because owning jewellery was a luxury until the Victorian era- let alone possessing so much a box was needed to store it all. Fine jewelry and other items became available to the masses after the industrial revolution due to the reduction in production costs. This led to a demand for trinket boxes, which were much smaller than jewelry boxes and therefore better suited to the needs of the middle class who did not yet possess an abundance of jewelry. In Victorian households, collectables and other items of interested were also stashed inside these boxes. This is why they are known as trinket or keepsake boxes, rather than just jewelry boxes, although of course jewelry was also stored in them. Trinket boxes were produced in large numbers around this time. Many were lined with colored plush or velvet or rich wood. More elaborate designs had interior divisions and trays for rings and other pieces of jewellery. It was also common to see trinket boxes so small that they could only contain one item, such as a single ring. Ornate exteriors were created to reflect the value of the trinket boxes contents. The Edwardian era saw the introduction of new styles of trinket box. These included small circular or oblong boxes...

1955 "Quaternary: Ice-Age Landscape" Woolly Mammoth Vintage Wall Hanging
Located in Colorado Springs, CO
Presented is an original, hanging wall chart from the 1955 “History of Life on Earth” series by Austrian paleontologist Erich Thenius and illustrator Fritz Zerritsch. The series consists of ten paintings that show the progression and evolution of mammals, invertebrates, and plants over time. This specific scene is the tenth and final composition. Titled “Quartär Eiszeit-Landschaft” (translated: Quaternary - Ice-age landscape)” the composition features two woolly mammoths walking single file across a snowy, boulder strewn landscape. A herd of caribou is in the background. Small inset illustrations in the lower margins included a numbered key to the animals, plants, and fossils from that time period. “The History of the Life on Earth” suite series was first conceived as a way to illustrate University of Vienna paleontologist Erich Thenius’ 1955 book “Die Geschicte des Lebens auf der Erde.” Thenius chose the Viennese landscape artist Fritz Zerritsch to produce the illustrations for this book. Resulting in a final completed suite of ten paintings, the suite “represented biotas and ecosystems present in different geologic time.” Starting with the Early Paleozoic period and ending with the Quaternary period, the scenes range from landscapes to underwater marine scenes. Stylistically, Thenius and Zerritsch drew inspiration from well known paleoartists Rudolph Ballinger and Charles R. Knight. Black and white versions of Zerritsch’s original paintings were included in the back of the book and were referenced throughout the text. The paintings were also mass produced as classroom teaching aids in the form of roll-up wall charts, as seen here. In German-speaking countries, both the book and the hanging wall charts were marketed together. The wall charts were printed by Hofmanndruck Wein, a Viennese printing company. In the United States, the wall chart series was distributed by Denoyer-Geppert Co., an American company specializing in maps, atlases...
