Vintage Cast-Iron Eagle Sculpture, Early 20th Century
Located in Colorado Springs, CO
This is a cast-iron figural eagle doorstop, circa early 20th century. The eagle is depicted with wings spread wide, perched and mounted to a square marble base. The eagle retains traces of its original gilt surface and is embossed with “F.O.E.” at its midsection, possibly referring to the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
The eagle is both the national bird and the national animal of the United States. The eagle motif has been widely used throughout American history, most notably as part of our Great Seal. The founders of the United States were fond of comparing their new republic with the Roman Republic, in which eagle imagery, usually the golden eagle, was prominent. On June 20, 1782, the Continental Congress adopted the design for the Great Seal of the United States...

"Come Forth A Dream" Bronze Sculpture by Veryl Goodnight, Ed. 19/25, 1987
Located in Colorado Springs, CO
Presented is an original signed bronze sculpture by American artist Veryl Goodnight. The sculpture is called "Come Forth A Dream" and depicts four running horses, galloping together with free-spirited and unbridled energy. The patinated bronze was cast in 1987 in a very limited edition of only 25. This specific bronze is signed, dated, and numbered 19/25.
Veryl Goodnight(b, 1947) is a celebrated contemporary American artist working in Southwest Colorado. Her studio ranch is situated between Durango and Mesa Verde National Park and the dramatic landscape, abundant wildlife, and fellow ranching community provide endless inspiration for her art. Her many years spent in the West, observing, painting, and sketching her surroundings, gave Goodnight a profound awareness of the mannerisms of ranchers and animals alike. This experience translates directly to her art.
Goodnight has monumental sculptures across the United States, in Europe, and Japan. The most notable is “The Day The Wall Came Down...

Brass Pheasant Pair
Located in Colorado Springs, CO
This is a beautiful, matched pair of decorative brass pheasants. With finely detailed feathers and angled heads, this is an expressive pair of birds. The bird sit very well together, with their distinctive long tails stretching out behind them.
Throughout the late 1800s, pheasants motifs could be found on elaborate English and American china patterns, tapestries, and silver pieces. This fascination with pheasants came from the long-standing tradition of pheasant hunting, which was a popular group activity on English estates and country homes. Decorative silver and bronze statuettes modeled as birds or scenes of fox hunting, for example, would have been displayed in a home to represent a homeowner's participation in the sport or hobby.
Although made in the 20th century, this pheasant pair...

"Instinct" Bronze Sculpture by Mark Hopkins, 1998
Located in Colorado Springs, CO
Presented is an original bronze Western wildlife sculpture by American artist Mark Hopkins. The bronze is titled “Instinct” and depicts two expertly sculpted wolf heads. Using the involved and lengthy method of lost-wax casting, “Instinct” captures the intensity of the wolves’ focused, expressive gazes. Stacked and connected, the sculpture expertly plays with negative space and scale, as a rocky base twists and flows into the chest of the first wolf. The bronze is signed and dated in the mold to the back of one of the wolves.
Artist Mark Hopkins (American, b. 1965 ) is inspired by the majesty of wildlife and mankind's interaction with nature. He creates limited-edition bronzes that evoke “a sense of awe and respect for the mysteries and loveliness of the world around us.” A master of the lost-wax casting tradition, Hopkins’ bronzes have been called “bronze in motion” for their fluid look, which often appears to display natural beauty in defiance of gravity.
Captivated by form and design, Mark has created a signature sculpting style resulting from decades of study. Encouraged by parents and teachers from an early age, Mark's unique talent developed alongside his technical skills of sculpting and casting. As an artist, Mark is constantly challenging himself to render the rich beauty of life and the deep emotion of the human soul into flowing sculptural form, noting "I strive to express beyond the image, to catch spirit, to reveal deeper emotions, and to share joy."
Collectors of his work include Barbara Mandrell, Clint Eastwood, Bill Clinton, Colin Powell, George and Barbara Bush and a host of other luminaries and corporations including the National League Association of Baseball Club Owners, the Atlanta National Golf Club, Humana, Coca-Cola and others. Each Mark Hopkins sculpture...

Vintage Spreadwing Brass Eagle Bookends by Virginia Metalcrafters, 1952
Located in Colorado Springs, CO
Offered is a beautiful pair of spread-wing eagle bookends by Virginia Metalcrafters, stamped 1952. The eagle is shown with its wings fully spread and a laurel branch and bundle of arrows clutched in its left talon. The eagle clutches a Union shield across its breast. The Union shield has a chief with three stars and six stripes completing the design.
The eagle motif in décor and folk art has been widely used throughout our nation's history, most notably as part of our Great Seal. The founders of the United States were fond of comparing their new republic with the Roman Republic, in which eagle imagery, usually the golden eagle, was prominent. On June 20, 1782, the Continental Congress adopted the design for the Great Seal of the United States depicting a bald eagle grasping 13 arrows and an olive branch with its talons.
When Charles Thomson put together the final design for the Great Seal, he placed a bundle of arrows in the eagle's left (sinister) talon. The official description specifies the bald eagle holding "in his sinister a bundle of thirteen arrows." The thirteen arrows are tightly aligned – a symbol of "strength in unity" that's found in the traditional cultures everywhere, from the Romans to the Iroquois— in this case a nod to the unity of the original 13 colonies.
William J. Loth founded Virginia Metalcrafters in 1890, under the name Waynesboro Stove Company. The company, which made ornately cast cook...

"Double Trouble" Bronze Sculpture, After Frederic Remington
By (after) Frederic Remington
Located in Colorado Springs, CO
Presented is a bronze sculpture, entitled "Double Trouble," after renowned Western artist Frederic Remington. The bronze depicts a mounted cowboy encountering an angry bear. With his rifle aimed and ready, the tense standoff between man and grizzly bear is captured fully in the round. Cast using the lost-wax process, this is a licensed reproduction of one of only twenty two bronze sculptures Remington created during his life.
Although born, raised, and educated on the East Coast, Frederic Remington (1861-1909) achieved considerable success as America’s leading illustrator of life on the western frontier. His career took off in the mid-1880s when he began making western illustrations for Harper's Weekly and many other widely read New York magazines. Accompanying both factual news reports and colorful fictional tales, Remington's pictures delighted and informed an East Coast populace hungry for information of the new frontier. Remington traveled West repeatedly and greatly admired the rough and intrepid cowboys and soldiers he met there. He enjoyed meeting them and hearing their stories during his visits as a journalist and illustrator.
Remington produced over 3,000 signed works. Most of them were illustrations, but as he grew older, he turned away from the publishing world and accomplished masterful paintings and drawings. From 1895 to his passing, Remington turned to sculpture and impressionistic oil-on-canvases. He created 22 stunning, energetic bronzes, most of which were created using both sand-casting and the lost-wax method of casting.
The first foundry with which Remington worked was the Henry-Bonnard Bronze Company in New York. Four different sculptures were cast in bronze, starting in 1895, using the sand-casting method. They were "The Broncho Buster," "The Wounded Bunkie," "The Wicked Pony," and "The Scalp." Starting in 1900, Remington began working exclusively with the Roman Bronze Works, in New York. Using the lost-wax bronze casting process, they produced the rest of his bronzes until his death in 1909.
Some of Remington’s bronzes...
