Beautiful vintage Japanese four-panel Byobu folding screen, hand-painted by Hiyakuho Imayasu for The Iohara Collection of Kyoto, Japan. The richly detailed botanical composition depicts peonies, iris and an assortment of flowering plants and foliage in shades of white, burgundy, blue, yellow and deep green, set against a luminous gold-toned ground. The flowers and foliage extend gracefully across the four panels, creating a dramatic yet balanced composition rooted in the Japanese tradition of seasonal botanical painting. The artist’s calligraphic signature and red seal appear at the lower right. The reverse retains its original metal label reading “Hand made and Painted in Kyoto Japan,” together with the original Iohara Collection of Kakejiku and Byobu certificate. The certificate identifies the artist as Hiyakuho Imayasu, age 60 at the time, and states that he studied art at the Korin School and that his art had appeared in public exhibitions throughout Japan for 40 years. The certificate further describes works in the Iohara Collection as limited editions painted by member artists of the Kyoto Screen...
