The fine quality of the sculpture comes from the Château de la Haute Forêt in Bréal sous Montfort, and was part of Edouard Nignon's collection.
The Château, built in 1857 in a half-Gothic, half-Renaissance style, is listed as a Historic Monument, with its extremely well-preserved interior décor: floors, panelling, ceilings and fireplaces. Edouard Nignon, who commissioned our dining room set in 1919, lived in the Château until his death in 1934.
