Wrongwoods Yellow with Red Low Cabinet by Established & Sons
By Established & Sons
Located in Beverly Hills, CA
British artist Richard Woods is renowned for his work with garish and repetitious motifs. He has applied these to facades, floors and walls across the world in commissioned work and gallery installations. These ‘logos’ are often abstractions and interpretations of domestic pattern, the woodblock print being a particularly recognisable signature print. Designer Sebastian Wrong teamed up with Woods for Established & Sons’ programme of collaborations where individuals from two creative fields work together. Woods’ block printed motifs were applied to Wrong’s utilitarian cabinets. These storage units are reminiscent of 1950s furniture – a fitting vehicle because much of Woods’ work is based on a nostalgia for mid-century domestic interiors. Dimensions Night Table: L585mm × D355mm × H595mm 16kg Chest of Drawers: L1090mm × D510mm × H735mm 70kg Low Cabinet: L1500mm × D405mm × H645mm 60kg Long Low Cabinet...

Early 18th Century French Louis XIV Régence Trellis Marquetry Armoire Wardrobe
By Etienne Doirat
Located in Berlin, DE
Early 18th Century French Louis XIV / Régence Marquetry Armoire or Wardrobe The rectangular Louis XIV Régence armoire or wardrobe with rounded corners standing on a short base with bracket feet and curved apron with gilt-bronze Apollo head mount; the two doors can be opened by a Pasquil lock to reveal the inside with four removable shelves. The doors decorated with gilt-bronze framed rectangular cartouches displaying elaborate trellis pattern marquetry and gilt-bronze paterea mounts at the corners; the inner sides of the doors each with a large marqueted rhomb motif; the sides of the armoire with quatre-foil mirrored marquetry. Rich gilt-bronze banding, the upper corners and the bracket feet at the front with Louis XIV style gilt- bronze foliage appliques. Although this exceptional Louis XIV / Régence armoire or wardrobe does not bear a stamp (stamping furniture only became commonplace after 1745), its shape, its quality of manufacture and its luxurious yet well-balanced use of Louis XIV/Régence gilt-bronze mounts on an elaborate geometrical marquetry all lead to the workshop of the important cabinet maker Etienne Doirat (1675-1732). Étienne Doirat came from a family of cabinet makers that had been established in Paris from the beginning of the 1600s. Doirat only began to stamp his furniture at the end of his career, and accordingly only few pieces bear his stamp and can serve as comparison pieces for newly discovered pieces of furniture. He constructed various furniture forms, including commodes, armoires, corner cupboards, and tables, often veneered with simple marquetry in exotic woods. Although he did not do the casting, chasing and gilding, Doirat tried to keep exclusive control over the models for his bronze furniture mounts...

Carl Auböck Coatrack Wardrobe, Beechwood Patinated Brass Bronze Hooks, 1950s
By Werkstätte Carl Auböck
Located in Hausmannstätten, AT
A coat rack by Carl Auböck, Vienna, Austria, manufactured in midcentury, circa 1950. It is made of a beechwood frame in an aged and very warm tone. There are six patinated brass hooks (similar to bronze) which can be positioned randomly on the rows. This wardrobe is in very good original condition with only little wear. About Carl Auböck II 25 August 1900, Vienna (Austria)-17 July 1957, Vienna (Austria) Carl Auböck was an Austrian painter and designer of the Classic modern movement. His best-known designs include the Baumtisch (eng. "tree table") and the Umkehrlampe (eng. "reversible lamp"). Auböck began his apprenticeship as a bronze worker and chaser in his father's workshop. From 1917-1919, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. After this, he followed his teacher Johannes Itten to the Bauhaus in Weitmar and became friends with the director, Walter Gropius. Little over a year later, he left in order to take over his father’s workshop in Vienna and raise a family. Here, through his circle of friends and acquaintances, he became convinced of the ideas of Adolf Loos and developed into an opponent of the Viennese workshops. Alongside his Viennese bronze and Art Deco design work for the domestic and American markets, he began to produce paintings and drawings. The styles he developed in the early 1940s for everyday objects achieved cult status after the Second World War. In May 1945, he served a six-month prison sentence in the Vienna District Court I due to his membership in the NSDAP. At the end of the 1940s, he worked with his son Carl in the workshop. In 1954, he was awarded a total of four gold medals at the Triennale in Milan. In 2010, Auböck’s works were placed under protection by the Austrian Federal Monuments Office (BDA). Hundreds of original designs were produced during his long creative career but his Baumtisch and Umkehrlampe are outstanding examples. Carl Auböck / Carl Aubock...
