Hamilton Hamilton (1 April 1847 – 4 January 1928) was a painter and etcher, known mostly for his landscapes of the American West. Born in Oxford, England, he lived most of his life in the Eastern United States. He painted landscapes in New York, Connecticut, the American West, England, and France. He also painted portraits and drew illustrations.
Artistic career
Hamilton Hamilton was born in Oxford, England, on 1 April 1847. While young, he was a protégé of John Ruskin. In 1872, he began his mostly self-taught career as a portrait artist in Buffalo, New York. He created 47 landscape paintings during an 1873 expedition to Colorado which were chosen to be part of the 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia. He spent 1878 and 1879 painting in Pont-Aven, Brittany, alongside Barbizon School painters.
He moved to New York City in 1881 and shortly after began to practice genre painting and etching.[6] He became an associate member of the National Academy of Design in 1886 and a National Academician in 1889. Until the end of the century, he and his family resided alternately in upstate New York, Long Island, Colorado, and England.[6] In 1907 and 1908, Hamilton spent two years painting landscapes in Southern California. Condition: Good; professionally restored: Canvas restreched on new stretcher bars; five repairs made to small tears in canvas (see image); cleaned and re-varnished with UV-resistant varnish. Unframed. Image size: 39.5"H x 55"W. We have the original frame which needs some extensive repair to the gesso. Happy to include the frame with the painting as is.
Karl Müller was born in Hamburg-Altstadt in 1865. His wealthy Jewish parents Abraham Müller (1832-1896), citizen of the Hanseatic city since 1869, and Henriette "Jette", b. Burchard (born 1832 Neubuckow / Mecklenburg), had a cigar factory at Spielbudenplatz 5 in St.Pauli. When Karl Müller was ten years old, next to factory and warehouse, now at Speersort 11 (Altstadt), there was also a branch in Altona-Ottensen with the address Am Felde 68. The family lived at the time at Pferdemarkt 13 (Old Town).
After attending the Jewish Foundation School at the Zeughausmarkt, Karl Müller completed a three-year lithography apprenticeship. From 1886 to 1888, he studied at the Royal Saxon School of Applied Arts in Dresden with the history and decoration painter Donadini, then with Professor Hanke of the Prussian Academy of Arts in Berlin.
Karl Müller's painting style was conventional-realistic and did not follow modern trends. In 1891, the oil paintings "Preparation for the Service", "In the guardroom", tattoo", "gymnastics lesson", "covert patrol” and "return from the field service exercise”, whose main motive almost always soldiers formed.In 1893, he painted the" invasion of the 76er " as a horizontal format in black and white, the painting was acquired by the Museum of Hamburg History in 1930. The disposition of Karl Müller could be classified as "kaisertreu" and "national" (Maike Bruhns) at this time - not by chance he acted with his Nicknamed "Soldatenmüller", he successfully participated in exhibitions in Berlin and Hamburg before the turn of the century.
Even at this time, the frequent change of residence is striking: 1893 Papendamm 25 (Rotherbaum), 1896 Bundesstraße 9 (Rotherbaum). In 1898 he was in the Hamburg address book as a "genre and portrait painter" with the residential address 1. average 43 (Rotherbaum) out.
At the age of 38, Karl married in 1903 in the Hanseatic city of the Jewish Louise Hauer (born 12.2.1872 in Hamburg), called "Lieschen". Before her marriage, she lived with her mother at Grindelberg 78. Her father, Martin Hauer (1836-1897), also born in Hamburg and was a citizen of the city since 1862, owned a factory for soap and perfume. In 1904 and 1911, the two daughters Karla and Lotte were born.
1904, the family lived at this time in the Bogenstraße 20, Karl Müller commissioned a portrait of the emigrated hamburger Henry Jones opening the same lodge in the Hartungstraße 9-11. Already at this time he might have been a member of the Hamburg Artists Association of 1832.
Starting from 1908 further change of dwellings on the basis of the telephone books are comprehensible: nearly yearly the family moved and moved thereby from the Grindel quarter over Hoheluft east to Harvestehude and Winterhude. Around 1912 she moved into an apartment in Sierichstraße 156. Here, the landlord Schröder provided the artist with an area of around 45 square meters as a studio on the dry floor. But the building police criticized this use and after some disputes, the painter had to move once again with family and studio. The official telephone directory recorded as an address from 1914 to 1918 Klosterallee 20 (Harvestehude).
Friedrich Jansa described Karl Müller's changed motif choice in his artist's glossary in 1912: "In recent years he has been watercolouring a lot in the Hamburg area and now mainly takes his motifs from Hamburg harbor...

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Teresa Vito's paintings reflect the beauty she sees all around her. She loves painting living energy, whether it is the outdoor landscape, berries and flowers picked for a still life, or the unending variety of the human face.
Vito has been a full time oil painter since 1992. She currently lives in Pueblo, Colorado. Vito has won numerous national and regional awards including an Award of Excellence, Best Portrait and Best Still Life Awards from Oil Painters of America. She also received the Best of Show award from the Artists of Colorado Exhibition held at the Colorado History Museum.
Teresa Vito grew up in a one store town in upstate New York. She had never met an artist or had gone to an art gallery until she went to college. She chose to major in art because she loved to draw. College offered no clue as to how to become an artist so she decided to try to figure it out on her own.
With $250 and a train ticket to Denver (she had never been west of Ohio) carrying a suitcase, a purse and a portfolio of nude drawings, Vito began her artistic journey. During her twenties she did every job she could find that was art related. Vito worked in a frame shop and gallery, at art supply stores, made posters and newspaper advertisements and created display windows in downtown Denver.
The year the Art Students League in Denver opened, she maneuvered a job there running a small art supply store. It was here she found out about the world of Artist's Workshops. Vito learned as much as she could looking through the door of the many classes taught by master artists, who were in fact making a living with their art. With this inspiration Vito saved up enough money in 1992 to live cheaply for a year and become a full time artist. She has never looked back and strives to continue to be the best possible painter she can be. She now teaches workshops with gratitude and generosity, to share in all that she has learned.
Vito has a BA in Fine Art from the State University of New York at Geneseo and has taught and studied at the Art Students League at Denver and the Loveland Academy of Fine Arts. She has expanded her knowledge by taking numerous workshops over the years with artists Quang Ho, Ramon Kelley...

Tomanek, the son of a carpenter, was born in Moravia. His family discouraged his art talent and wanted him to be a shoemaker. He studied in his homeland of Czechoslovakia at the School of Design in Prague. He emigrated to America around the turn of the century and arrived in Chicago in 1910 and worked as an interior decorator. He attended the Art Institute of Chicago and studied with Antonin Sterba. He also studied with Albert Krehbiel and K.A. Buehr.
He was a member of the Bohemian Artist Club, Association of Chicago Painters, and Sculptors, and the Chicago Gallery Association. His work is included in the collection of the Vanderpoel Art Association (Chicago). He exhibited from the 1910s-40s, including exhibitions at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Georgia Museum of Art.

Cornelis le Mair is truly a renaissance man, encompassing all disciplines of the arts. He enjoys painting, drawing, writing, architecture, sculpture, and interior design.
Le Mair was born in Eindhoven, The Netherlands in 1944. He began drawing and painting at the young age of five and while in kindergarten, he was often made to show his paintings in other classes even though he was shy about doing so. “When I could not play outside because of bad weather, I would sit in my bedroom and would draw.” His early art studies were widely influenced by the Rembrandt exhibit in the Rijksmuseum (1956) that he attended with his father. There le Mair was inspired by the Old Masters and “the desire to unravel all the mysteries hidden under the cracked varnish” began.
Already having painted a lifesize copy of “The Nightwatch” on the wall of his bedroom, le Mair was continually driven by the Rembrandt exhibit. He began to experiment with resins, pigments and oils in order to hone and perfect the technique of the old masters. He studied drawings and paintings and early on developed the feeling of color and composition.
After completing high school, he worked for a short period as a designer of woven fabrics. Although his heart desired to paint, he enjoyed having a pencil and brush in hand and a case full of art books and says, “This treasure of inspiring information took me further on track to the traditional trade.”
At this same time, le Mair’s artistic endeavors led him to learn the art of music. First learning to play the guitar from friends, he began performing at youth centers. This love of music expanded into him learning to play the mandolin, turning lye, banjo, and bagpipes.
Just after his eighteenth birthday, le Mair was accepted into military service where his lack of conforming led him to a maximum solitary confinement sentence. After a month in training, the army physician and le Mair agreed that he was born to be an artist and released le Mair from military services.
Once he returned home, with the encouragement from his parents, le Mair began his art schooling at the Art Academy (Kustacademie) in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands. There he found that the school was geared for modernism and after painting a portrait of a fellow classmate, his teachers advised le Mair to look for a school where the traditional ideas were still taught. Longing to study the classical arts, he applied and was accepted to the Academy of Fine Arts (Koninklijke Kunstacademie) in Antwerp, Belgium in 1965. After studying under Professor Victor Dolphijn, le Mair graduated cum laude in portrait and figure paintings in 1968. Harold Kitner was born on May 18, 1921 in Cleveland, Ohio and was the son of Isaac and Frieda Kitner. He obtained his MA from Case Western Reserve University in 1947. Kitner was a postgraduate from Cleveland Institute, Ohio University, Cleveland College, Washington and Lee University. He obtained his Doctorate from Kent State University. Harold Kitner began teaching art and art history at Kent State University in 1947. During his career, he served as Director and Chairman of the Fine Arts Division. Kitner played a significant role in creating the Art School’s core program, organizing the Kent State Arts Festival, and the Blossom Festival School. He also served as President of the Kent chapter of the American Association of University Professors, and was an art critic for the Akron Beacon Journal. In 1967, Kitner became Kent State University’s first Faculty Ombudsman, officially titled Dean for Faculty Counsel. He held this position until 1974. At the time of the Kent State shootings, Kitner’s position as Ombudsman meant that he was involved in many of the decisions regarding University administration in the weeks and months following the Kent State shootings. “My recent work continues the exploration of shapes that originate in tailoring pattern pieces,” says Washington. “My works over time have become more structural in their compositions. I utilize textile cutouts that have been previously sewn and/or painted. I allow threads and frayed edges to act as ‘painterly’ gestures within a loose grid of contrasting shapes that jostle for position across the canvas. I enjoy the tensions where shapes meet and create negative space or where color overlaps and interacts.”
Washington's modernist approach to Cubist-inspired artworks has gained international recognition for asymmetrical geometric elements that combine to form a complex, layered composition. Her artworks have been exhibited and collected internationally, including in New York, Los Angeles, and Shanghai.
