Vintage Japanese Formal Black Silk Kimono with Pheonix Embroidery
Located in Atlanta, GA
A vintage Japanese silk Kuro Tomesode Kimono, circa 1950s-1980s. Kuro Tomesode is a dress for married woman for the most formal occasions, equivalent of the evening gowns in the west. It is overall black, decorated only with patterns of bright colors on the bottom. This kimono has three Mon family crests on the front and back shoulder. It is lined with white silk in its interior. On the front, it features exposed white stitches around neck and breast, a very subtle and elegant touch. The bottom part of the kimono is decorated with an embroidery imagery of two phoenix in flight. The lavish use of gold and polychrome threads and meticulous rendition of the birds contrast greatly with the otherwise sober black background. Pheonix is the mythical bird traditionally represents the Queen or Female Supreme in Chinese culture. Known as Hoo-oo in Japanese, Pheonix is a symbol of good fortune, power and divine wisdom and represents the sun goddess Amaterasu, the Queen of Heaven and Creation, who was believed to be the ancestor of the lines of the Japanese imperial family...

Mid-Century hand Knotted Tapestry of Galloping Horse in Earth Tones
Located in Barrington, IL
This stunning mid-century handwoven tapestry captures the dynamic energy of a galloping horse, rendered in vibrant earth-tone hues that shimmer with movement and life. A true piece of vintage textile art, the composition evokes the dreamlike, expressive style of Marc Chagall’s murals at the Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center in New York. The horse’s powerful form and the bold use of color bring a painterly quality to the weaving, blending fine craftsmanship with artistic imagination. The rich palette of browns, golds, ochre, and deep reds enhances the sense of motion, giving the tapestry an almost three-dimensional depth. Perfect for collectors of mid-century modern décor, equestrian art, or lovers of Chagall-inspired aesthetics, this piece is not only a decorative statement—it’s a conversation starter and a rare example of artisan handwoven textile art from the mid-20th century. Dimensions: 38" x 68" Date of Manufacture: 3rd Quarter of the 1900s Place of Origin: Europe Material: Wool Condition: Excellent The Persian Knot Gallery, SKU 1699 Vintage Handwoven Tapestries, French Aubusson Tapestry, Aubusson Tapestry Pillows, French Tapestry Pillows, Antique Rug Pillows, Antique Persian Rug Pillows, Antique Paisley Shawl, South American Textile, Indian Textile, European Embroidery, Persian Kerman Suzani, Antique American Quilt, Antique American Coverlet, Antique Pennsylvania Coverlet, African Textile, African Tapestry, 18th Century Antique French Tapestry, Large Wall Tapestry, Handwoven Tapestry, Handmade Quilt, Modernist Tapestry, Mid Century Wall Tapestry, Antique Tapestry with...

French Landscape Tapestry Probably Beauvais, circa 1750 7'3 x 9'3
Located in New York, NY
French landscape tapestry probably Beauvais, circa 1750. Although not a product of the Royal Gobelins factory in Paris, this pictorial landscape tapestry is extremely Fine with silk highlights. The French royal tapestry works in the Gobelins made masterpieces for the crown. For the nobility and bourgeoisie, Beauvais was the source for attractive wall hangings in all sizes, degrees of fineness and subject matters. Rural scenes particularly appealed to urban collectors. Here two white geese cavort under a sandy bluff. The hillock is framed on each side by trees, one a blasted trunk, and topped by a picturesque rustic windmill. Realistically depicted flowers, overhanging grasses and luxuriant foliage give a summer air to the image. In addition, a startled bird, flies up to the right. The border is a trompe l’oeil gilt picture frame with corner bosses and low relief “carving”. The weave is quite Fine and is executed in wool with copious silk details. Although Jean Pillement...

Pair of Antique Tapestry Borders from Flanders, circa 1580
Located in Dallas, TX
A beautiful pair of tapestry fragments, hand-woven in Flanders (now Belgium), circa 1580. At roughly 132 inches (11 feet) long, the fragments were, originally, vertical borders to a very large and brightly colored tapestry. The colors have maintained their vibrancy over the last 400+ years, with deep blue, brown, green, and red accents over a gold and cream background. Although the fragments do not have identical scenes, it is readily apparent that they originated from the same source. At the top of each fragment is a bearded warrior clad in golden armor with a flowing blue cape and green greaves. A shield rests on the ground, supported by the soldier’s left hand, while his right hand lifts a spear into the air. Towards the center of the textile is a pair of musicians, one strumming a lute, while the other plucks a lyre. At the bottom of each tapestry is a single female figure, well-dressed and sitting on a bench with one arm overhead. The remaining areas have been filled with fruit bouquets, architectural elements, and other figurative representations. A more recent navy blue border surrounds the scenes and the backs have been lined with a mauve colored linen. Our hand-woven tapestry borders...
