Artist Comments
This artwork is from my figurative series. I feel joy, peace, and harmony when painting women. Harmony to me is the poetry of lines and colors that has a life of its own. This piece is made of dye and acrylic paint on silk. I always use the finest quality Chinese Silk. When applied, liquid dyes and paints flow and move on silk in a way that is truly exhilarating to watch! In order to stop this movement, a material called a resist is used which not only stops the dyes from moving on the silk, but also creates an outline for what is being depicted, adding dramatic dimension. Once the painting is completed, the dyes are steam-fixed to make them color-fast. It also makes the colors brighter and more intense.
About the Artist
Silk is the fabric of the soul. On it, Yelena Sidorova pours paint in colorful sheets that shimmer and glisten with emotion. The process of painting on silk requires a delicate approach. Yelena has the gentleness required to weave mysteriously provocative paintings. She says, "I transform the world around me: every drop of dye on silk is one drop of magic into my existence."
