In this linocut I was trying to create movement and a warm range iof colours. The cutting is intended to be vigorous with ears of wheat in the foreground against a setting sun.
Rob Barnes, artist, is available for sale online and in our art gallery at Wychwood Art. Rob Barnes studied painting and printmaking at Hull College of Art and London University in the early 1960s. He taught etching, screen-printing, lino and related surface printmaking at Keswick Hall College in Norfolk. He later moved to the University of East Anglia, Norwich where he continued teaching in the School of Education until 2006. Presently he divides his time between printmaking and his other passion, playing the violin in local orchestras and for choral performances. In 2017 he began making a small number of sterling silver jewellery pieces following a course at West Dean, Sussex. His artwork follows themes, such as light on water, or shadows in the landscape. 'King's Cross Station is a place of great significance to me, many departures and arrivals have taken place at this station. I love it's gothic architecture and sheer drama right in the centre of London. Eternal thanks to Poet Laureate John Betjeman for campaigning to save it from demolition, I look forward to many future journeys from this cathedral of travel.'
John Duffin is a painter and printmaker whose work is based on the modern environments of cities and towns, creating dynamic, cinematic images of contemporary urban life. His unique images of architecture, lighting and figures have been greatly praised and awarded, recently receiving The Most Outstanding Print Award from Sir peter Blake, he has a distinctive artistic voice and has much to say in his work about contemporary life in all of it’s manifestations. His work is in the tradition of LS Lowry in Britain and Edward Hopper in America and like these artists he creates unique views of contemporary urban life, a combination of his ability as a draughtsman, his imagination and his personal use of perspective and colour. He makes drawings and watercolours in front of his chosen subject and takes these sketches back to his London studio where he creates from them his own imaginative interpretation of the site, recreating the place anew via his own imagination. His work is redolent with influences from cinema, graphic novels and the history of figurative painting, but from this comes a vision that is his alone.

I love the beautiful lines, shapes and intricate patterns in the dome of London’s most famous cathedral. This piece of art is created from my original photograph, digitally manipulated to trace the dome’s outlines and coloured by hand on a graphics tablet.
The image is then printed directly on a small piece of brushed aluminium, which gives the piece an etched appearance. The design of the dome itself appear as aluminium lines. The metal print is floated in hand-painted waxed wood frame.
