In an early commercial commission, renowned British Pop Artist Allen Jones was asked to design the publicity poster for the 1976 US release of Barbet Schroeder’s 1973 fetish romance 'Maîtresse,' starring a young Gerard Depardieu as the small time crook who stumbles into the double-life of a dominatrix, played by Bulle Ogier. Werner Gallery, who exhibited Jones' original artwork in 2016, stated that 'despite his inability to Identify with its explicit sadomasochistic themes, Jones accepted the poster commission based on his fondness for the powerfully stylized heroine of the film.' Jones' original design, with the high-heeled, leather-clad brunette with bull whip in hand, proved too risqué for the distributor, so the figure was reworked into a blonde beauty gripping a pair of keys instead of the more provocative whip. A rare two-sided uncut printer's proof for the Japanese release of 'Raiders of the Lost Ark.' When cut, this sheet would have provided eight Japanese B5 or 'Chirashi' mini posters for use as flyers in cinema lobbies to promote current and future releases. Popular with Japanese collectors, Chirashi often take the form of a miniature replica of the movie's poster, with information printed on the reverse. Conceived by producer George Lucas and directed by Steven Spielberg in their first collaboration, the spectacular 1981 action-adventure blockbuster 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' starred Harrison Ford as globe-trotting action-hero archeologist Indiana Jones in a quest for the biblical Ark of the Covenant. ‘Royal’ Barometer by John Russell, Watchmaker to the Prince Regent

This superbly crafted wheel barometer and thermometer has a mahogany case surrounded by twisted brass stringing and central panels of foliate tendrils above Russell’s signature thistle motif in black and gilt verre églomisé. It is surmounted by a brass Prince of Wales feather finial. The long, rectangular thermometer plate is inscribed ‘Thermometers: Beaumar, Fahrenheit, Royal Society of London’, the latter being an early attempt to standardise temperature measurement. The circular dial is inscribed ‘Changeable, Fair, Settled Fair, Much Rain’ and ‘Rain’ and signed across the centre ‘J Russell, Falkirk, Invt et Fecit, Watch Maker to his R.H the Prince Regent’. The reverse has a paper label ‘Russell, Iden Collection Inventory 1896’. Scottish, circa 1815.

Capitalising on the sci-fi space craze in the wake of 'Star Wars,' EON Productions opted to postpone filming 'For Your Eyes Only' in favour of loosely adapting Ian Fleming's 'Moonraker' as the eleventh instalment in the James Bond series. And so Roger Moore's fourth outing as agent 007 saw him head into outer space to prevent a plot to wipe out the world population and recreate humanity with a master race. Despite production costs more than double those of 'The Spy Who Loved Me' (1977), the space-age lark became the highest grossing 007 movie to date, until usurped by 'Goldeneye' in 1995. The Australian Daybill poster featured the same spectacular silvery artwork by American artist Daniel Goozee as the British and US poster campaigns, which pictured Bond in a spacesuit rather than his typical tux.
Although a similar format, Australian day bills are significantly rarer than US insert posters.

Printed in stunning stone lithography, this extremely rare poster was designed by prolific poster artist Eric Rohman for the original Swedish release of the action-packed 1926 American silent comedy 'For Heaven's Sake,' starring Harold Lloyd - one of the biggest stars of the silent era. After several years at Pathé, Lloyd made his debut at Paramount with this delightful slapstick classic, in which his trademark go-getting 'glasses' character appears as Uptown Boy J. Harold Manners, a millionaire playboy who falls for a Downtown Girl. With a dazzling finale featuring a double-decker bus careering through the city streets, the comedy of thrills was one of Lloyd's most successful films and the 12th highest grossing film of the silent era.

The Life of a Forgotten Magicians
We are proud to offer a unique collection of one of London’s most unquestionably entertaining magicians known as Bernard and Ms Radar. A fascinating collection of 1940s-1960s items relating to the telepathic magic act 'Bernard and Miss Radar', a mind reading husband and wife duo, who extensively toured British theatres performing their telepathy based act and who were apparently the recipients of the 'World Convention of Magicians Award', which they received at the Magic Circle Convention in London in 1955. The collection comprises the basis for their act; 2 large handmade jigsaw puzzles, a “Radar” hat, top hat and other associated items with which they performed. There is also a large quantity (over 1000) of publicity photographs, theatre contracts, Magic Circle programmes, scrapbooks and other ephemera relating to their career, plus approximately fifteen original 1940s and 1950s theatre and other posters and several hand bills and flyers, all including Bernard and Miss Radar on the billing, along with other variety acts of the period. Some of the theatre posters included are; The Hippodrome, Eastbourne, Arcadia Theatre, Skegness, Commodore, Ryde, The Knightstone, Weston-Super-Mare and The Palace Theatre, Reading, which now all been framed to preserve them for display.

Origin: England
Condition: Aged through wear and tear is present across all the item, some fading across the posters however they are not torn or damp. Some of the hand painted items also show aged wear and light discolouration. Please take note that these items are over 70 years old and would have been used as part of this magician’s act, therefore its safe to say these items all show age, however, are very well preserved. Please review all the photos and propose questions were unsure of the condition to avoid any disappointment.
