Large Suong Yangchareon Thai American Photorealist LA California Street Painting
Located in Surfside, FL
Suong Yangchareon (Thai American, 1952-) Acrylic on Canvas Los Angeles Street Scene with yellow taxi cab and cars. Hand signed with Initials. Dimensions: Overall Size: 25 1/4 x 49 1/4 in. Sight Size: 23 5/8 x 47 5/8 in. Yangchareon came to Los Angeles, California from Lampang, Thailand, Southeast Asia where he studied Fine Arts at the Arts & Crafts College (Poh Chang), Bangkok, Thailand and Sculpture and Graphic Arts, Silpakorn University, Bangkok, Thailand. In California he continued his studies at Woodbury University, receiving a degree in Advertising Design. He is a contemporary figurative realist artist. He painted the urban landscape of California, which have been exhibited in solo and group shows. His work is represented by prominent galleries nationally. Yangchareon spent much of his childhood at his father’s movie theater where he became fascinated with the world of American Westerns. The nostalgia for this idyllic film Americana can be garnered through his subject matter. Abandoned theaters, factories and businesses of an almost extinct era of architecture are carefully rendered in the soft morning light. Working from his own photography, shot during the early hours of the day, Yangchareon’s acrylic and oil paintings are largely devoid of human figures, but deeply imbued with their past presence. Recently, the artist has broadened his focus to include imagery of the city at night––rendering glistening rain-soaked sidewalks bathed in the artificial light of street lamps and movie marquees against an inky black sky. Yet, Yangchareon’s motivation remains the same; to find the hidden beauty in varying industrial landscapes and seeing splendor where most would argue it does not exist. Reminiscent of Edward Hopper, a sense of melancholy pervades his compositions in a quiet, detached manner. The influence of Richard Diebenkorn and Wayne Thiebaud can also be detected in the artist’s sense of color and in his interpretation of light. Moody LA auto culture artwork dealing with themes of isolation and alienation. Kibbutz Abstract Jerusalem Nightscape Israeli Tempera Collage Painting Judaica
Located in Surfside, FL
Abstract Expressionist cityscape of Old City of Jerusalem in moody blues and gold. Yitzhak Greenfield, painter, born 1932, Brooklyn, New York His focus is on the heavenly and the terrestrial Jerusalem; on the Hebrew alphabet; and on central themes in Jewish tradition and culture. He deals with the tension between figurative and abstract. Education 1946 Educational Alliance Art School, New York City, with Abba Ostrowsky, Chaim Gross, and Louis Lozowick. 1948 Thomas Jefferson High School, Brooklyn, New York, Art 1953 Drawing and Drawing Wall Murals,Seminar at Givat Haviva with P. Pelzig, Yohanan Simon, and Naftali Bezem. 1960 Printmaking with the artist and printmaker Borin, Venice, Italy 1979-1981 Morris Blackburn Print Workshop, New York City, U.S.A. Teaching Art Kibbutz Gal-On and Gat 1961-1963 Arts, regional school at Mateh-Yehuda Regional school, Mate-Yehuda Anglican school, Jerusalem 1965–70 Bet Ha'am, Popular University Outreach Program, Jerusalem Ruth Youth Wing, Israel Museum, Jerusalem Shira Mushkin: Majestic scenes in blue, gold and indigo, radiating spheres and grand expanses hover above architectural forms and clusters of Hebrew letters, revealing dreamlike realities. These are the creations of the artist Yitzhak Greenfield who works in watercolor and acrylic paints layered with collages of painted papers, discarded book materials, and fragments of his own prints. Applying parts of broken furniture, clock springs, iron locks and keys, the artist forms assemblages that hint at familiar settings, resonating the past. For Brooklyn born, Israeli artist Yitzhak Greenfield, these visions are the essence of the Jerusalem landscape, inspired by the city’s ever-changing magical scenery. For generations, Jerusalem has been a focal point for the Jewish people. It is the center of Jewish life, faith, hope, history, and consciousness. Jerusalem holds a particular significance for Greenfield, who moved to Ein Kerem, Jerusalem over fifty years ago, after living on a kibbutz. Greenfield is a Jerusalem artist, and he remarks: “Living and working in Jerusalem is a special journey for me. My works are visionary landscapes, which are reconstructions of Jerusalem, not always relating to specific sites.” The artist has always been intrigued by the historical and dynamic nature of the city, as he constantly explores his own connection to the traditional and spiritual forms of Judaism. Greenfield’s art is linked to Jewish and Israeli history and symbols, such as the Hebrew letters, Jewish amulets, and the Ten Sephirot (Kabbalah emanations), containing aesthetic qualities of the material and the spiritual. Working in a distinctive modernist method, Greenfield’s artwork lends itself to rich possibilities of expression. The exhibition Yitzhak Greenfield: Exploring Jerusalem comprises three main series from the artist’s career, which span over the course of many years and continue to this day; Jerusalem Visions, Jerusalem Assemblages, and Landscape and Meditation on the Hebrew Letter. These artworks portray timeless dream-landscapes of Jerusalem. The hidden secrets of the city are locked away in assemblage constructions, and prints depicting Hebrew letters illuminate into mystical meanings. The spectator travels along with Greenfield through his creations, exploring Jerusalem and experiencing a spiritual and living Judaism, in which the artist constantly searches for the expression of his cultural and spiritual legacy as he reconstructs Jerusalem. 1966 General Exhibition - Jerusalem Artists' House Artists: Hirszenberg, Samuel Boris Schatz, Lilien, Ephraim Moses, Joseph Budko, Leopold Krakauer, Meir Gur Arie, Jacob Eisenberg, Ben Zvi, Zeev Palombo...

Post Impressionist Fauvist Art French Oil Painting Urbain Huchet Country Picnic
By Urbain Huchet
Located in Surfside, FL
Urbain Huchet (French, 1930-2014) La Pause De Midi, Acrylic on canvas, (the certificate was marked acrylic but it seems like oil to me. I am not positive) Hand signed lower right. Framed dimensions: H: 30 x W: 35.25 in. Image H: 19.5 W: 25 in. This depicts farm or vineyard workers at a picnic outing Urbain Emmanuel Huchet was born in Rennes, France on April 28, 1930. Known for his modernist marine, cityscape, figure and genre painting. After studying law and owning a textile factory for four years, he decided in 1960 to devote himself entirely to painting. Mr. Huchet spent his first three years as an artist in Pont-Aven, following in the footsteps of the Post Impressionist, Paul Gauguin, and Symbolist, Emile Bernard, both of whom influenced him a great deal. In 1963, he moved to Paris, catching the travel bug. He journeyed throughout Europe and the Middle East, spending time in Indian markets, visiting Peru, Mexico, Egypt, and every beautiful country he could, finding inspiration in each place. He painted the scenery of each locale, culminating in a book to document his experiences. His works are typified by a fluid and free, gestural approach to both form and color, and they are immediately recognizable. He is adept at both painting oil on canvas and watercolor, and is an accomplished lithograph artist. His subjects are diverse, but are primarily a reflection of the landscape of the Brittany region as he has a profound love for the coast. His wonderful depictions of circus performers, vineyard workers having lunch, farmers, cabaret musicians and everyday people were strongly influenced by his adventures and sojourns in foreign lands. Urbain Huchet has been an exhibiting artist since 1960. He has had exhibitions in New York, London, New Orleans, Egypt, and Paris. He has exhibited at Park West Galleries along with Yaacov Agam, Alvar, Fauvist artist Emile Bellet, Romero Britto, Slava Brodinsky, Pierre Eugene Cambier, Claude Cambour...

Large Painting St. Barth (Ocean Beach with sky)
By Fabio Aguzzi
Located in Surfside, FL
As part of his St. Barth series, Aguzzi delivers another retreat for the spectator. This window into island life seeks to extend the tranquil nature of the ocean to its audience. The artists realistic perspective is demonstrated through the paintings blue palette, smooth sand, and painterly rocks. Aguzzi creates a tropical harmony by combining the Caribbeans earthy elements. FABIO AGUZZI Lombardi, b. 1953 Born in Lombardy in 1953, Fabio Aguzzi is an accomplished painter whose mastery of light is apparent in his distinct still lifes, portraits, and landscapes. Aguzzi took an interest in art at an early age. After sketching an impressive reproduction of Raphael's "The Duke of Montefeltro" in the margins of his schoolwork notebook, his teacher took the drawing to Aguzzi's father, Lino, and insisted the boy pursue artistic studies at Brera. Lino, a hobbyist painter himself, recognized and supported his son's talent. Aguzzi left his home in Vidigulfo to study at Brera School in Milan. From there, he entered the Academy of Fine Arts (where he would later teach). Here, he studied sculpture under the tutelage of Alik Cavaliere and painting with Vincenzo Ferrari. He also worked as an assistant to Annibale Biglione in his studio. In the 1960s, Aguzzi began to teach while becoming a prolific painter. During this time, he opened his first exhibitions displaying...

Alone Semi Abstract Landscape
Located in Lake Worth Beach, FL
Alone Barry Sons American Contemporary artist. Studied art in south Louisiana under the tutelage of two gifted teachers and self Having entered and won ribbons both locally as well as nationally has brought my work to the international stage. It has hung in Museum exhibitions and hangs in Korea, Turkey and England. Artist statement: I am a child of the Atchafalaya Basin, whose rivers and marshes run through the history of my family. Having been raised as a fur trapper’s son, in the United States largest swamp wilderness, I could always see the beauty in our coastal waters. The ever-changing lights, sounds and smells still resonate in my memory as if they were yesterday. After a 40-year absence, I returned to the marshes of my childhood and what I witnessed east of the basin was the degradation of our coastal wetlands. I had to put it on canvas. I had never offered my painting to the world; now it was a must. The Love I have the river and the Atchafalaya Basin is profound. Our marshes must be returned to it’s glory. While my inspiration was born in Louisiana it has grown to include all of nature. The painting of the coastal marshes...

Modernist Family Outing with Dog (Picnic in the Park) Ben Benn Oil Painting WPA
By Ben Benn
Located in Surfside, FL
Genre: Modern Subject: People Medium: Acrylic Surface: Canvas Country: United States Dimensions: 20" x 24" Scene of a family leisurely gathering together in a park to picnic and enjoying their day by the artist Ben Benn. Ben Benn, Russian/American (1884-1983) Ben Benn, a Russian-born American still-life and Post Impressionist landscape painter who was part of the first generation of artists in America to try to digest the lessons of Cubism Benn Benn was a pioneer American modernist whose independent style defied stylistic classification. Despite excursions into Cubism and Abstract Expressionist style, Benn “seems always to have been a ‘subject’ painter. Considering this, it is remarkable that he remained visible at all during the 50’s and early 60’s, when prejudice against the representational amounted nearly to a proscription of it.” Benn’s prominence in the art world over 6 decades was reaffirmed at a 90th birthday show at the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington , D.C. in 1974. Benn was born Benjamin Rosenberg in the town of Kamenets Podolsk in the Russian empire in 1884. This town was the regional capital of an area in what is today, SW Ukraine, and was historically known as Podolia. the Rosenberg family chose, along with thousands of others, to immigrate from Podolia to the United States in 1894 or 1899. “Between 1904 and 1908 Benn attended the National Academy of Design and he studied at the Arts Students League In New York City. He spent most of his career in New York City including memberships with the American Society of Painters and Sculptors, American Artists Congress and the Woodstock Artist Association. Academy curriculum stressed portraiture built up with broad, painterly brushstrokes, a technique that remained the foundation of Benn’s style. In his first group show, in 1913, he exhibited with Max Weber and Man Ray. By the mid teens his canvases were bolder in color and more decorative in style. In 1916, Benn participated in the important "Forum Exhibition of Modern American Painters...

In 1960s, Jehudith Sobel purchased a summer house in Woodstock NY, where she would spend every summer. This location proved to be one of her favorite spots to paint. Using both Expressionistic and Fauvist styles that she strove to perfect, Sobel explores her imagination and the use of colors with such freedom that one is captivated by the euphoric dance of nature that she was able to encapsulate. Judith Sobel was born in Lwow Poland in 1924. After World War II, she attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz, Poland. There she studied with the famous abstract...

American Woman Artist Modernist Large Oil Painting Cubist Influenced Landscape
By Lena Gurr
Located in Surfside, FL
A beautiful wooded landscape scene with houses and trees. Painted on a masonite board. hand signed lower right. with framers label verso. Framed to 40 X 55 inches. 33 X 48 without the frame and mat. It is not dated. Lena Gurr (1897–1992), was an American woman artist who made paintings, prints, and drawings During the course of her career Gurr's compositions retained emotional content as they evolved from a naturalistic to a semi-abstract cubist style. Born into a Russian-Jewish Yiddish speaking immigrant family, she was the wife of Joseph Biel, also Russian-Jewish and an artist of similar genre and sensibility. Gurr used Lena Gurr as her professional name. After marrying Joseph Biel she was sometimes referred to as Lena Gurr Biel. Biel had been born in Grodno, Poland (later absorbed into Russia) and had lived in England, France, and Australia before coming to New York. An artist, he specialized in landscape paintings and silkscreen printing as well as photography. He studied art at the Russian Academy in Paris. After immigrating to the United States, he studied under George Grosz at the Arts Students League. Gurr was born in Brooklyn and, apart from brief stays in Manhattan and in Paris, lived there her whole life. This painting bears the influence of Lyonel Feininger an influential German American artist. Gurr began studying art at a young age. In 1919 she studied painting and printmaking at the Educational Alliance Art School and between 1920 and 1922 she won a scholarship to attend the Art Students League where she took classes with John Sloan and Maurice Sterne. In 1926 and 1928 Gurr participated in group shows at the Whitney Studio Club in Greenwich Village and in 1928 she also participated in the 12th annual exhibition of the Society of Independent Artists at the Waldorf Roof in New York. (Reviewing this show, Helen Appleton Read, the critic for the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, said "I made three discoveries on my first visit, Thomas Nagel, Eugenie McEvoy and Lena Gurr with two figure compositions which have something of Marie Laurencin or Helene Perdriat quality of naive sophistication.") The Waldorf Roof was a set of rooms on the top floor of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, one of which had glass sides and a glass roof. The rooms were used for concerts, dances, benefits, and exhibitions. From 1929 to 1931 Gurr took a leave of absence from her teaching position to travel in France with Joseph Biel, an artist whom she had met while studying at the Art Students League. They spent time in Nice and Mentone but mainly in Paris. During the early months of 1931, while she was still abroad, her work appeared in group exhibitions held at the R. H. Macy department store and the Opportunity Gallery (opened by Gifford Beal). In 1932 she participated in three shows: a solo exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum, an annual exhibition of the New York Society of Women Artists, ( Its first president was Marguerite Zorach. Founding members included Agnes Weinrich, Anne Goldthwaite...

Israeli Motke Blum Modernist Abstract Expressionist Oil Painting Bezalel Artist
By Motke Blum
Located in Surfside, FL
Motke Blum was born in Racacun, Romania in 1925. Early in his childhood, the Blum family moved to Bucharest where they settled in a house situated near a circus. The circus would become young Blum's greatest love. He befriended several of the clowns and other performers and, when not painting or playing in clay, Blum could be found enjoying the company of these spirited entertainers. These experiences would later become a recurring theme in many of his works of art. In 1938, he was taken by the Romanian Iron Guard. When the Germans invaded Romania, Blum was taken to a forced labor camp. Even during his imprisonment, he continued to create art, painting on the walls of the camp. He escaped the Nazi camp in 1944 and boarded an immigrants' ship to Israel. One of the three ships in the convoy was sunk by a German torpedo. Motke later incorporated shipwrecks, boats, and other maritime subjects into several of his paintings. Studies, Bezalel, Jerusalem, Enamel, Silversmithing, Painting and Sculpture. 1956 Seminar in the dep. of design in the royal silver factory of Zeist, The Netherlands. Over the course of his long and fruitful career, Blum showed internationally at over fifty one-man-shows with exhibits in Israel, Holland, England, Belgium, the United States, France, Australia, and more. His art has been commissioned for public buildings and by prominent figures in Israel and around the world, and a series of posters were commissioned by the Justice Ministry and the Ministry of Tourism.

Thought Provoking Rock Quarry - Mid Century Abstract
Located in Miami, FL
This meticulously planned, designed, and executed work depicts an ultra-wide angle view of a rock quarry/mine. The viewer looks down at close-up-stylized rock formations and then out at a horizon line with rust-colored mine trestles. Atherton hints at perspective with a broken white line that is wider in the foreground and tapers to a hairline as it recedes to the background. The work was done in 1951 at the height of America's most important art movement: Abstract Expressionism. John Atherton absorbs its influences but retains elements of representation. Atherton was an in-demand commercial artist who worked for most blue-chip clients. It is possible that this was an editorial assignment for Fortune Magazine. At the same time, Atherton was also a fine artist and the work could be an expression of pure creative pursuits. The work looks better in person and one can look at it for hours and not get bored. Look carefully and you may discover a deeper meaning in this painting of precisely arranged rocks. Signed lower right. Brooklyn Museum of Art, New York, sold to benefit the acquisitions program ____________________ From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia John Carlton Atherton (January 7, 1900 - September 16, 1952) was an American painter and magazine illustrator, writer and designer. His works form part of numerous collections, including the Museum of Modern Art,[1] Whitney Museum of American Art and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.[2][3][4] Early Years He was the son of James Chester Atherton (1868-1928) and Carrie B. Martin (1871-1909). He was born in Brainerd, Minnesota.[5] His father was Canadian born. His parents relocated from Minnesota to Washington State, with his maternal grandparents whilst he was still an infant. He attended high school in Spokane, Washington. Career During his early years he never displayed an aptitude for art; rather, his first love being nature and the activities he relished there, mainly fishing and hunting. He enlisted in 1917, serving briefly in the U.S. Navy for a year during World War I. At the end of the war, determined to get an education he worked various part-time jobs, as a sign painter and playing a banjo in a dance band to pay his enrolment fee at the College of the Pacific and The California School of Fine Arts (now the San Francisco Art Institute). Once there, he also worked in the surrounding studios developing his oil painting techniques. A first prize award of $500 at the annual exhibition of the Bohemian Club in 1929, financed his one way trip to New York City, which helped to launch his career as an artist.[6] Atherton had aspired to be a fine artist, however his first paid jobs were for commercial art firms designing advertisements for corporations such as General Motors, Shell Oil, Container Corporation of America, and Dole. However, by 1936, encouraged primarily by friends, such as Alexander Brook, an acclaimed New York realist painter, he returned to the fine arts. Atherton continued to accept numerous commissions for magazine illustrations; such as Fortune magazine, and over the years he would paint more than forty covers for The Saturday Evening Post starting with his December 1942 design, “Patient Dog.” This picture is reminiscent of his friend Norman Rockwell ‘Americana style’ and captures a poignant moment of nostalgia, where a loyal dog looks toward a wall of hunting equipment and a framed picture of his owner in military uniform. Selected One person Exhibitions Atherton accomplished his first one-man show in Manhattan in 1936. His Painting, “The Black Horse” won the $3000 fourth prize from among a pool of 14,000 entries. This painting forms part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art collection in New York.[7] Atherton achieved recognition in New York City and elsewhere during the 1930s. Having exhibited at the Julien Levy Gallery in New York,[8] his paintings began to be collected by museums; including the Museum of Modern Art[9] and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. His reputation increased with his art deco stone lithograph poster for the 1939 New York World's Fair. In 1941, his design won first place in the Museum of Modern Arts “National Defense Poster Competition”. Selected Public Collections Fleming Museum of Art, Burlington, Vermont Albright-Knox Art Gallery,[10] Buffalo, NY Art Institute of Chicago,[11] Chicago Wadsworth Atheneum,[12] Hartford, CT Brooklyn Museum of Art, New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York The Museum of Modern Art,[13] New York Whitney Museum of American Art,[14] New York Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts,[15] Philadelphia De Young Museum,[16] San Francisco Smithsonian American Art Museum,[17] Washington DC Butler Institute of American Art[18] Youngstown, OH The Famous Artists School Founded in 1948 in Westport, Connecticut, U.S.A. The idea was conceived by members of the New York Society of Illustrators (SOI), but due to the Society's legal status, could not be operated by it. SOI member Albert Dorne led the initiative to set up a separate entity, and recruited the support of Norman Rockwell, who was also an SOI member. For the founding faculty, Dorne recruited Atherton, as well as accomplished artists such as Austin Briggs, Stevan Dohanos, Robert Fawcett, Peter Helck, Fred Ludekens, Al Parker, Norman Rockwell, Ben Stahl, Harold von Schmidt and Jon Whitcomb.[19] He collaborated with Jon Whitcomb with the book “How I Make a Picture: Lesson 1-9, Parts 1”.[20][21] Society of Illustrators Atherton as an active member from his arrival in New York. The society have owned many of his works. Ex-collection includes: Rocking Horse (ca. 1949) [22] Atherton, as his peers had many of his works framed by Henry Heydenryk Jr.[23] Personal On November 2, 1926, he married Polly “Maxine” Breese (1903-1997).[24][25] They had one daughter, Mary Atherton, born in 1932. Atherton's often chose industrial landscapes, however found himself spending considerable time in Westport, Connecticut, with an active artistic community, and it became home for him, and his family. He then moved to Arlington, Vermont.[26] Norman Rockwell enlisted Atherton in what was to be the only collaborative painting in his career.[27] He was part of a group of artists including a Norman Rockwell, Mead Schaeffer and George Hughes who established residences in Arlington.[28] Atherton and Mead Schaeffer were avid fly fishermen and they carefully chose the location for the group,[29] conveniently located near the legendary Battenkill River. In his free time, Atherton continued to enjoy fly-fishing.[30] He brought his artistic talent into the field of fishing,[31] when he wrote and illustrated the fishing classic, “The Fly and The Fish”.[32] He died in New Brunswick, Canada in 1952,[33] at the age of 52 in a drowning accident while fly-fishing.[34] Legacy The Western Connecticut State University holds an extensive archive on this artist.[35] His wife, Maxine also published a memoir “The Fly Fisher and the River” [36] She married Watson Wyckoff in 1960. Ancestry He is a direct descendant of James Atherton,[37][38] one of the First Settlers of New England; who arrived in Dorchester, Massachusetts in the 1630s. His direct ancestor, Benjamin Atherton was from Colonial Massachusetts...

Tarrasso square. House in the countryside. Original acrylic painting
Located in CORAL GABLES - MIAMI, FL
Les Guilleries. Original acrylic canvas painting Casimiro Martínez Tarrassó, a painter known simply as Tarrassó. He was trained at the La Llotja School in Barcelona. He completed his studies in Paris, where he got to know first-hand the Fauvist works that were shaking the Parisian art scene at the time. This Fauve influence will continue to be palpable in his work throughout his life in features such as the strong chromatic contrast, the elevated and somewhat exaggerated perspective, the absolute disinterest in the human figure, which appears only sketched as a complement to the landscape, and the representation of trees as electrified, subjected to tortuous inclinations. It is these formal features that give his works their own vitality and reduce their connection with the referential to a mere pretext. Tarrassó followed in the wake of the great Catalan landscape painters, paying particular attention to Joaquín Mir, although with a clearly differentiated personality due in part to the impact that Fauvism had on his artistic thinking. He cultivated still life and Catalan and Majorcan landscapes. He held his first exhibition in 1928 in Barcelona. Since then his shows have followed in Barcelona, Madrid, Palma de Mallorca and Bilbao. In 1935 he visited Mallorca for the first time, and from 1940 on he will have a studio there, specifically in Palma, where he lived for long periods and developed most of his artistic production. After the Civil War, during the 1940s, Tarrassó took part in several National Exhibitions of Fine Arts, in their editions of 1942, 1943 and 1950. Although the landscape was always the center of his production, Tarrassó also made works such as the mural decoration of the church of Santa María de Badalona. In Mallorca he also carried out a unique undertaking, planting his trestle in the Campanet caves to capture the stalactites and stalagmites from their stone cavities, developing a series of works that he presented in 1948. Throughout his career, Tarrassó was awarded the Pollença Prize of the I International Painting Contest, in 1962; the Santiago Rusiñol...
