Set of Two Engravings from Nash's "History of Worcestershire" /// Landscapes Art
By Treadway Russell Nash
Located in Saint Augustine, FL
Artist: Treadway Russell Nash (English, 1724-1811) Title: "Henbury Hall, late the Seat of Thomas Vernon, now of Henry Cecil Esq." and "Ombersley Court, the Seat of Lord Sandys" Portfolio: Collections for the History of Worcestershire Year: 1781-1782 (First edition) Medium: Set of Two Original Engravings and Etching with Aquatint on watermarked laid paper Limited edition: Unknown Printer: John Nichols, London, UK Publisher: T. Payne and Son, J. Robson, B. White, Leigh and Sotheby, London, UK; Fletcher, Oxford, UK; and Lewis, Worcester, UK Reference: Upcott III, page 1330 Sheet size (each): approx. 10.13" x 16.88" Image size (each): approx. 8.13" x 12.63" Condition: "Henbury Hall, late the Seat of Thomas Vernon, now of Henry Cecil Esq." has scattered light foxmarks in margins. The top edge is unevenly trimmed and a small taped tear to lower right corner. "Ombersley Court, the Seat of Lord Sandys" has light toning to sheet and some faint discoloration in right margin. A small light water stain to lower left corner. Have been professionally stored away for decades. They are both otherwise strong impressions in good condition Notes: Provenance: private collection - Aspen, CO. "Henbury Hall, late the Seat of Thomas Vernon, now of Henry Cecil Esq." was likely engraved by English artist James Ross (1745-1821) after a drawing by himself. "Ombersley Court, the Seat of Lord Sandys" was engraved by English artist Valentine Green (1739-1813) and English artist Francis Jukes (1745-1812) after a drawing by an unknown, likely English artist. The first work is an engraving; the second work is an etching with aquatint. Comes from Nash's two volume "Collections for the History of Worcestershire", (1781-1782) (First edition), which consists of 75 engravings. Each work is printed from copper plates in one color: black. There was a (Second edition) "with Additions" bound in with Volume II of this portfolio published by John White in (1799). And both the First and Second editions of "Collections for the History of Worcestershire" are based off Thomas Sanders' 1779-1781 "Perspective Views of the Market Towns within the County of Worcester". "Ombersley Court, the Seat of Lord Sandys" has an unidentified watermark in the center of its sheet. "Henbury Hall" is actually incorrectly misnamed; its correct name is "Hanbury Hall". "PLATES, Drawn and engraved by J. Ross, unless otherwise expressed." - "A Bibliographical Account of the Principal Works Relating to English Topography", (1818) - William Upcott. Biography: Treadway Russell Nash (24 June 1724 – 26 January 1811) was an English clergyman, now known as an early historian of Worcestershire and the author of Collections for the History of Worcestershire, an important source document for Worcestershire county histories. He was a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London. Treadway Russell Nash was born on 24 June 1724 born at Clerkenleap, in Kempsey, Worcestershire. His family were from Ombersley. They had lands there and at Claines, and had later bought lands in the Reformation around St Peter's, Droitwich. He was related to James Nash and John Nash, both MPs for Worcester. His father Richard, a grandson of Sir Rowland Berkeley, died in 1740, and Richard's eldest son in 1757. As a result, Treadway Russell Nash inherited the Russells' Strensham estates from his brother, as well as the Nash estates, and took both names. He was educated from the age of twelve at King's School, Worcester, and became a scholar at Worcester College, Oxford aged fifteen. In March 1749, he accompanied his brother on a trip to the continent, to aid Richard's health. They visited Paris for about six weeks, before spending the summer "on the banks of the Loire". They then visited "Bourdeaux, Thoulouse, Montpelier, Marseilles, Leghorn, Florence, Rome, Naples, Bologna, Venice, Padua, Verona, Milan, Lyons, and again Paris"; such expeditions are often known as the Grand Tour. On his return in late summer 1751, Nash took up a post as Vicar of Eynsham through his friend and future brother-in-law, John Martin. He also had an income as a tutor at Oxford. He took his Doctor of Divinity degree and left Oxford, having "gone out grand compounder", following the death of his brother. He also left his benefice at Eynsham in 1757. While at Oxford he had proposed a road from there to Witney (now the A40 and B4022), and also stood for Parliament. Nash married Margaret Martin...

Abstract Italian Woman Artist Modern Metallic Foil Mirror Lithograph Laura Fiume
By Laura Fiume
Located in Surfside, FL
This is not signed or numbered. it is from a folio of prints. Laura Fiume was born in Urbino, central Italy in 1953. Her education took place in Milan at the Liceo Artistico and at the Polytechnic School of Design. In 1976 she moved to Canzo, near Como where she learned serigraphy, ceramics, and painting from the well known artist Salvatore Fiume, her father. At the beginning the main subject of her works was that of fishes. She then extended her interest to the wider world of animals, interpreted through a deliberately naïve style and very bright colours. In 1983 Laura’s works were exhibited both at the Basel Art Fair and at Artexpo in New York. The latter marked the beginning of a collaboration with the Work’s II Gallery In Southampton (NY) which would continue until 1988. Her major exhibitions of those years were in Milan at the Palazzo dell’Arengario, now home of the Museo del Novecento in Piazza Duomo, (1985), and in Venice at the Assicurazioni Generali headquarters in Piazza San Marco (1987). In 1983 Laura began her ceramic production in her father’s workshop of Canzo located in a former silk mill. Between 1990 and 1992 thanks to an exclusive agreement with a Japanese company her paintings and graphic works were distributed throughout Japan. The 1990 exhibition at the Artesanterasmo Gallery of Milan on the theme of mirrors was the only occasion in which she exhibited her paintings with her father. Her collaboration with that gallery has been steady since 1988. In 1992, following a suggestion from the well known architect Pepe Tanzi, Laura collaborated to the launch of the Pozzi & Verga new collection of tables and chairs by including images of those pieces of furniture in her own paintings. Between 1992 and 2000 she had her own showroom in Milan where her collections of ceramics and her creations for leading companies like Ricchetti (tiles), Fede Cheti (home fabrics), Edilkamin (fireplaces and stoves), Kaigai (textiles for clothings and bathroom towels), Rosenthal (china), and Proserpio Arredamenti (furnishings and frabrics) were on display. In 1995 she was chosen as Designer of the Year by Meyer Mayor, the distinguished Swiss company specialising in kitchen and table linen production. In the 1995 exhibition entitled Walls and Terracottas at the Artesanterasmo Gallery of Milan abstract most of the subjects were painted on dirt-like materials. In the same year she also presented her new Tableaux an Terre at the L’Ile en terre Gallery of Saint Paul de Vence, France. Between 1996 and 2005 she collaborated with the Edizioni San Paolo Publishers illustrating children’s books and stories for kids in the G-baby Magazine. In 1999 she increased her show-room space by creating Atelier Produzioni d’Arte where prints, ceramics, and sculptures by various international artists were presented. In 2000 Laura began her collaboration with Raika of Japan designing their fashion collections which have been on display since 2002 in the Showroom Laura Fiume at the Mitsukoshi Department Store in Tokyo. In 2000 Laura designed a collection of coffee cups called The Jungle Collection for Cellini Deutschland. In April 2003, as part of the events that took place during the Salone del Mobile of Milan, Laura held a large exhibition at the Spazio Exté entitled Other Rooms: A Tribute To Philippe Starck. On that occasion Laura enjoyed the collaboration of Alessi, Driade, and Flos who kindly lent her the pieces from their Philippe Starck production represented in her paintings for an installation in that exhibition. In June 2003 Laura held a one-artist exhibition at the Svetog Krševana Gallery in Šibenik, Croatia as part of the International Children’s Festival of that town where she exhibited her early works dedicated to the world of children. In 2005 she gave her contribution to the restyling of the L’Arenella Hotel on the Isola del Giglio, Tuscany, by providing a number of enlarged images of her works which became the characterizing element of the hotel’s interiors. In the summer of the same year she held a retrospective at the Vartai Gallery in Vilnius, Lithuania. In 2005 she also presented an installation within the project Ten Arm-chairs for Ten Artists, an initiative by Molteni & C, a leading company in the furniture field, where Laura was asked to decorate a Molteni arm-chair from the Reversi collection and to carry out a number of paintings using the same fabrics covering their couches and arm-chairs. In 2006 there were as many as three exhibitions of Laura’s. The first one, called Visual Amplifications was held in Fiesole, near Florence, in the museum within the St. Alexander Basilica building. The second one, entitled Private Stories, took place in Sansepolcro, Tuscany at the Piero della Francesca City Museum. The third exhibition, entitled Trame d’interni (Plots in Interiors) was hosted in Milan by the Artesanterasmo Gallery where Laura presented her new paintings on fabrics provided by well known fabric producer Enzo degli Angiuoni. In 2007 she exhibited her works in Rome at the Galleria Margutta 3 and then at the trendy TAD Conceptstore showroom of Via del Babuino. Both exhibitions were strictly connected through the idea of displaying works in harmony with TAD’s furnishings. In 2007 Laura was also invited to take part in Milan’s Cow Parade...

The Talmudists Post Soviet Non Conformist Avant Garde Judaica Lithograph
By Alek Rapoport
Located in Surfside, FL
Dimensions w/Frame: 18.5 X 14.5 Alek Rapoport (November 24, 1933, Kharkiv, Ukraine SSR – February 4, 1997, San Francisco) was a Russian Nonconformist artist, art theorist and teacher. Alek Rapoport spent his childhood in Kiev (Ukraine SSR). During Stalin's "purges" both his parents were arrested. His father was shot and his mother spent ten years in a Siberian labor camp. Rapoport lived with his aunt. At the beginning of World War II, he was evacuated to the city of Ufa (the Bashkir Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic). A time of extreme loneliness, cold, hunger and deprivation, this period also marked the beginning of Rapoport's drawing studies. After the war, Rapoport lived in Chernovtsy (Western Ukraine), a city with a certain European flair. At the local House of Folk Arts, he found his first art teacher, E.Sagaidachny (1886–1961), a former member of the nonconformist artist groups Union of the Youth (Soyuz Molodyozhi) and Donkey's Tail, popular during the 1910s–1920s. His other art teacher was I. Beklemisheva (1903–1988). Impressed by Rapoport's talent, she later (1950) organized his move to Leningrad, where he entered the famous V.Serov School of Art (the former School of the Imperial Society for the Promotion of Arts, OPKh, later the Tavricheskaya Art School). His association with this school lasted eight years, first as a student, and then, from 1965 to 1968, as a teacher. With "Socialist realism" the only official style during this time, most of the art school's faculty had to conceal any prior involvement in non-conformist art movements. Ya.K.Shablovsky, V.M.Sudakov, A.A.Gromov introduced their students to Constructivism only through clandestine means. (1959–1963) Rapoport studied stage design at the Leningrad Institute of Theater, Music and Cinema under the supervision of the famous artist and stage director N.P.Akimov. Akimov taught a unique course based on theories of Russian Suprematism and Constructivism, while encouraging his graduate students to apply their knowledge to every field of art design. Despite differences in personal artistic taste with Akimov, who was drawn to Vermeer and Dalí, Rapoport was influenced by Akimov's personality and liberalism, as well as the logical style of his art. In 1963, Rapoport graduated from the institute. His highly acclaimed MFA work involved the stage and costume design for I.Babel's play Sunset. In preparation, he traveled to the southwest regions of the Soviet Union, where he accumulated many objects of Judaic iconography from former ghettos, disappearing synagogues and old cemeteries. He wandered Odessa in search of Babel's characters and the atmosphere of his books. He organized a new liberal course in technical aesthetics, introducing his students to Lotman's theory of semiotics, the Modulor of Le Corbusier, the Bauhaus school, Russian Constructivism, Russian icons and contemporary Western art. The movement sought to preserve the traditions of Russian iconography...

Larus Islandicus (Iceland Gull) /// John Gould Ornithology Bird Animal Litho Art
By John Gould
Located in Saint Augustine, FL

Remnants of mounting tape from previous framing at top on verso. In excellent condition with strong colors Notes: Provenance: private collection - Mount Vernon, IA. Lithography and hand-coloring by German artist Joseph Wolf (1820-1899) and Irish artist William Hart (1830-1908). Comes from Gould's five volume "The Birds of Great Britain", (1862-1873) (First edition), which consists of 367 hand-colored lithographs. Other contributing lithographers were John Gould and English artist Henry Constantine Richter (1821-1902) "The Birds of Great Britain" is recognized as Gould's greatest work. Comes with its original accompanying text page. Gold gilded edges as issued. The Iceland gull is a medium-sized gull that breeds in the Arctic regions of Canada and Greenland, but not in Iceland, where it is only seen during winter. The genus name is from Latin larus, which appears to have referred to a gull or other large seabird. Biography: John Gould FRS (14 September 1804 – 3 February 1881) was an English ornithologist and bird artist. He published a number of monographs on birds, illustrated by plates that he produced with the assistance of his wife, Elizabeth Gould, and several other artists including Edward Lear, Henry Constantine Richter, Joseph Wolf and William Matthew Hart. He has been considered the father of bird study in Australia and the Gould League in Australia is named after him. His identification of the birds now nicknamed "Darwin's finches" played a role in the inception of Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection. Gould's work is referenced in Charles Darwin's book, "On the Origin of Species".
