Barbizon School, Fontainebleau landscape with walkers, oil on canvas
Located in Paris, FR
Barbizon School, French circa 1850 Fontainebleau landscape with walkers Oil on canvas 21.5 x 31 cm Framed : 32 x 41.5 cm In good condition, some minor lacks of paintingsdue to a former frame abrasion mainly on the right border and in the lower border (see photographs please) This landscape is probably a view of the Fontainebleau forest. This type of scene was painted by the Barbizon painters and by Camille Corot. The village of Barbizon is very close to the forest of Fontainebleau and the painters who lived there, such as Camille Corot, painted the most picturesque views of the spectacular stone quarries. There were also many walkers and hikers in these places, as the artists had made them famous and fashionable. The author of this charming little painting wanted to depict the wildness of the place and, in contrast, the walkers who made it a pittoresque curiosity. Although it's difficult to identify or ascribe the work, as there's no signature or other indication, there's a great deal of sensitivity and self-confidence in a very lively touch that heralds Impressionism. The detail of the barely sketched silhouettes...

Composition cubiste by G. Mathias – Geometric Abstract Cubism in Blue and Ochre
Located in PÉRIGUEUX, FR
Composition Cubiste (Cubist Composition) Acrylic on canvas 60 x 50 cm A bold and structured cubist composition by Grégoire Mathias, balancing angular abstraction and muted vibrancy through ochre, slate blue, and cream tones. A refined homage to classical Cubism, ideal for collectors and interior designers alike. This acrylic on canvas painting titled Composition cubiste by French artist Greg Mathias exemplifies his distinctive interpretation of geometric abstraction. Influenced by the analytical Cubist movement, the work distills reality into a symphony of angles and layered planes. Triangular and faceted shapes intersect and overlap in a carefully constructed composition, creating visual depth without relying on traditional perspective. Mathias plays with a restrained yet impactful color palette of ochre, slate blue, pale teal, charcoal, and warm neutrals, giving the piece a harmonious architectural balance. The composition invites the eye to travel across textures and interlocking forms—an exploration of spatial tension and rhythm. Though the artist is best known for his Diachronic Cubism, this painting is rooted in a more analytical approach. It recalls early 20th-century abstraction, where reality is fragmented into geometry and form is prioritized over narrative. The result is a piece both timeless and contemporary—suited for refined interiors that embrace strong visual identity. Perfect For: Interior designers sourcing geometric abstract wall art for modern or transitional spaces. A standout piece for accent walls, entryways, hallways, or home libraries. Ideal for collectors seeking statement cubist art in a classic color scheme. Especially suitable for art-forward interiors with modernist or Bauhaus elements. Keywords: Greg Mathias, Composition cubiste, French abstract art, analytical cubism, geometric abstraction, modern cubism painting, acrylic on canvas, blue ochre abstract, cubist wall art, contemporary European art, interior design wall piece, vertical wall art...

"Terpsichore II" by Grégoire Mathias – Muse of Dance in Diachronic Cubism
Located in PÉRIGUEUX, FR
Terpsichore, Muse de la Danse II Acrylic on Canvas 46 x 38 cm Terpsichore, Muse de la Danse II by Grégoire Mathias captures the grace and vitality of Terpsichore, the ancient Greek muse of dance. Rendered in his signature Diachronic Cubism, Mathias skillfully weaves multiple moments of movement into a single harmonious composition. The figures, deconstructed into geometric forms, evoke rhythm and elegance, embodying the spirit of dance. The muted tones of earthy golds and greys, complemented by dynamic lines and subtle textures, lend the painting both timelessness and modernity. This piece is a testament to Mathias’s ability to merge classical inspiration with a contemporary cubist approach, bringing the muse of dance vividly to life. Perfect For: Art collectors drawn to works inspired by mythology, admirers of cubist reinterpretations, and those who seek paintings that celebrate rhythm, movement, and cultural depth. Terpsichore, Muse de la Danse II is a captivating addition to any collection or interior space that celebrates both tradition and innovation. Keywords: Diachronic Cubism, Greek mythology art...

Promenade by Grégoire Mathias – Geometric Cubist Composition in Earth Tones
Located in PÉRIGUEUX, FR
Promenade Acrylic on wood 33.1 x 21.8 cm A compact yet striking cubist composition by French artist Grégoire Mathias, “Promenade” explores human figures through layered geometries and rich earth tones. “Promenade” is a refined, vertically oriented work in acrylic on wood panel by French artist Greg Mathias, a pioneer of Diachronic Cubism—an evolution of Cubism that doesn’t just fragment space, but also folds multiple moments in time into a single frame. In this composition, a solitary figure appears mid-step, portrayed through overlapping forms that subtly shift in posture and position, evoking successive instants of the same walk. Using a palette of earthy ochres, rose-beige tones, slate blues, and deep browns, Mathias blends geometric abstraction with temporal movement. The fractured background enhances the impression of both forward motion and layered time, suggesting the silent passage of moments within a single contemplative scene. Unlike traditional Analytical Cubism, which reduces forms to a still, spatial analysis, this piece embodies motion and transformation—hallmarks of the artist’s unique visual language. Compact in size but conceptually expansive, “Promenade” invites the viewer to witness the echo of steps already taken and those just about to occur. Perfect For: Interior designers sourcing vertical wall art...

A young poet or artist, French Romantic period portrait of a sensitive figure
Located in Norwich, GB
You will find this young man good company! It is a pleasure to study his thoughtful, sensitive face. He has a benevolent and real presence. To my mind, he certainly has an artistic nature - he looks like a thinker, poet and/or musician. Dating from what the French call the Romantic Period, the early 1800s, our painting is monogrammed AG and may be attributed to Auguste Glaize. Born in Montpellier, Auguste Glaize studied under the painters Achille Devéria and Eugène Devéria. He came to be one of the great French Romantic painters of the early 19th century, marking his career with important history paintings and cycles of monumental religious...

"We Lost the North", Wood Crack, Compass, Money, Flower, Symbolism Oil Painting
By Andrée Bars
Located in Clermont-Ferrand, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes
Named « We lost the North », this symbolist oil painting on canvas represents a great fracture symbolized by a crack in the wood in its middle. Fracture between the world of the finance and the nature. The trap is to always quantify with money and not to take into account the insects and the plants, our planet. Hence the compass on the side of nature, because according to the French expression, "we have lost the North", which means that we do not know where we are going. Andrée Bars is a French painter. Having been strictly trained for 4 years by the American hyper-realist painter Mr. Ted Seth Jacobs, who himself inherited 19th century masters’ skills from his own professor, Andrée Bars learned the profession of painting in its purest tradition. She still applies these ancient masters...
