Tree of Life - Embroidered Tapestry Wall Hanging
Located in Asheville, NC
Tree of Life One ancient mythical symbol appears across various cultures as the esoteric Tree of Life. The Tree represents life's abundance and immortality. The cosmic mountain is often depicted as the highest point on earth where heaven and earth meet, where Gods dwell; the Tree stands atop it. Specific trees are held sacred and worshipped as the Tree of Life by the different cultures, and it does not bode well to cut the Peepal in India, Bodhi (Peepal) in Buddhist countries, Cyprus in Iran etc. About: "Art is just perception. The first glance is an emotion, your emotion. The title of the canvas is read after that."- Shabbir Merchant...

By Subrata Gangopadhayay

Subrata Gangopadhyay - Durga, 22 x 14 inches (Unframed Size) Acrylic on Paper, 2020 Inclusive of shipment in roll form. Should you want it framed and ready to hang ..please let us know and we will be happy to assist . Style : Subrata Gangopadhayay is widely considered one of India's leading painters in the modern realistic tradition. The strength of his lines and the life-like quality of his figures are features that have contributed to his enormous popularity and success. Subrata's artistic vision is informed by swirling colors, a sense of movement and a vivid array of color. The characters are in oil and acrylic canvases, come alive in all of their colorful glory. He has the skills of a virtuoso draftsman, skills that he honed during his years as the Senior Artist of the Ananda Bazar Group of publications. Subrata's women are all of these - charming 'adorable, seductive, vulnerable...compassionate... as with great controlled skill he expresses their moods through their eyes, smile & open body language. Each canvass is an excellent blend of technique & feeling as it evokes a nostalgic mood, each element expresses and emotional involvement - such is the charm & magic of his canvasses just as overwhelming is the variety of his work done. Undoubtedly a Master painter he is also a distinguished portrait artist, who paints in a mixed style within the broad expressionist format, standing firmly on the solid technical foundation derived form his training in academic realism. Brushwork ranges form smoothly realistic to the patchy impastos of vibrant expressionist bristles. About the Artist & his works : Born : Kolkata in 1959. Ramp Figure, Bronze Sculpture, Black color by Modern Indian Artist "In Stock"
By K.S. Radhakrishnan
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
K.S. Radhakrishnan - Ramp Figure Bronze Sculpture H 13 x W 10 x D 6 inches K.S. Radhakrishnan working with Musui & Maiya, Musui potraits has a hand Rickshaw puller as is still prevalent in few parts of Bengal. The bronze figures are elfin, mischievous, airy, acrobatic, and archaic, delicately balancing on one hand or leg. He renders a sensuous quality to his works by deploying extraordinary body movements of his figures. Radhakrishnan is a distinctive and appealing presence on the modern Indian sculpture scene. He says: “For me bronze works best because it is strong, and brings out the character of my sculptures. Although it takes time, the process also becomes a part of my art form.” Style : K.S Radhakrishnan is one of the most notable among the new generation of sculptors. Like many of his contempories he is a figurative sculptor, but his preference for modelling and bronze casting sets him apart from the rest of them. Recharging age old sculptural processes with a new sensibility, thus is the singular challenge he brings to modern Indian sculpture. And this makes him a modernist - who approaches his work with discernible ambition and considerable aplomb while steering clear of brinkmanship. Radhakrishnan's works often drawn from the emotions and myths of the Hindu gods, such as Shiva, Kali and Radha. His sculptures are often larger than life-sized; placed in the outdoors, they evoke a superhuman atmosphere. Over the years, Radhakrishnan has experienced with alternate sculpting mediums, working in molten bronze, beeswax and Plaster of Paris. The physical process of working with the materials becomes a performance in itself. The sculpture is the product of a tactile engagement with his medium. With celebration of sensuality as one of its running themes, his works is at once both intimate and universal in its appeal. A personal commemorative sculpture, with a scale and presence that holds well in natural settings, his work has found permanent home in a number of public collections all over the world. Palm Grooves of South India, Charcoal & Wash on Paper, (set of two) "In Stock"
By K.G. Subramanyan
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
K.G. Subramanyan - Untitled - 15 x 11 inches (unframed size) Charcoal & Wash on paper (Framed & Delivered) Style : K G Subramanyan was one of the leading artists who was part of India’s post-Independence search for identity through art. A writer, scholar, teacher and art historian, K G Subramanyan was prolific in his art, spanning the spectrum of mediums from painting to pottery, weaving, and glass painting. He believed in the value of Indian traditions and incorporated folklore, myth and local techniques and stories into his work. Critic Geeta Kapur has stated that Subramanyan was deeply influenced by popular, modern, classical and indigenous traditions. No matter what the medium, be it handmade paper or acrylic sheet, his artistic practice has integrated fluid traditions so as to create a new lingua franca. The strokes that shape the faces and the little blobs, the vertical and horizontal drama all become like a choreographed symbolism that has a sense of play in line and length. Nothing is in excess, nothing is obnoxious but each stroke forms the finesse of versatile ventures. About the Artist and his work : K.G. Subramanyan (1924-2016) was born in Kerala. Education : He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the Presidency College in Chennai. In 1948, he graduated from Kala Bhavan in Santiniketan, where he studied under the tutelage of Benode Behari Mukherjee, Nandalal Bose and Ramkinkar Baij. In 1955, he received a British Council Research Fellowship to the Slade School of Art at the University of London. He was an inspiration to generations of students as a member of the Baroda M S Fine Arts Faculty. His focus there in later years was on terracotta and pottery. Solo Shows : 2014 – The Government Museum & Arts Gallery, Chandigarh. 2014 – Red Earth Gallery, Vadodara. 2018 – Art Musings, Mumbai, KG Subramanyan...

Sheet size 17" x 14", image size 13" x 10" 2022 Signed, Editioned, dated and titled in pencil Provenance: From the artist's studio. Sonal is a storyteller. Her primary medium of choice is printmaking, exquisite etchings whose protagonists jump off the page to tell their stories. Like all good narratives that lucidly roll from one tale to the other the artist works in series. Be it her Kissa Goi or her new Vachik stories, each work comprises of many parts, all fitting together as one large work, or, equally as pleasing, as individual works that may or may not speak to each other in any combination of pattern. Sonal lives and works in Lucknow, in India, the City famous for its tradition of Ghazal poetry. In past times the poems were displayed in Diwan's (illustrated books) a calligrapher and artist would be commissioned to illustrate the poems. Sonal references these traditions and we can see traces of this in her contemporary images. Ghazal's delight and employ elements of playfulness, anecdote and surprise. They take their audience on a bitter-sweet journey and Sonal invites us to do the same. The artist explains that in the evenings the women gather on the roof terraces of her town to tell the tales that are passed down. These are stories that primarily revolve around the woman and their everyday role in a patriarchal society. These tales become mixed with the contemporary, both local and global events that effect the lives of the women. At first glance there is an anecdotal quality to the visual narratives but look a little longer and you will be rewarded by layer upon layer of meaning. Through the clever use of text and images of objects which may at first appear to be dislocated, each part of the image pulls together the narrative, expanding it into many different levels. In Sonal's own words, This work is very close to my heart, a lot of emotions are attached to this work. Some such feelings that awakened for the first time and they were priceless. I have lived that time, felt it very closely, whatever happened to me at that time, I have tried my best to make it work. Kajal has a very important role, when there are children and grandmothers complete it, it is said that by applying Kajal in the eyes of the children, the eyes become bigger. Which we call Nazarota which is a small iron vessel. Kashmiri shawls...
