Johann Georg Meyer Von Bremen (German 1813-1886) was a genre painter. He was the son of master baker Johann Georg Meyer. His mother was strictly religious. From 1833 he studied at the Düsseldorf Academy of Fine Arts , which was led since 1826 by Friedrich Wilhelm von Schadow, the son of the sculptor Johann Gottfried Schadow. In addition to Schadow, Karl Ferdinand Son was his teacher there. Most likely a scene of Nantucket harbor and presented in what could be the original frame with a slightly highlighted silver finish. Presents well overall measuring 16.5" x 20.5" including the frame.
From 1929 to her death in 1952, Emily Hoffmeier (1888-1952) spent summers on Nantucket, painting in the waterfront studios—first Harborview No. 3 and later moving to the Red Anchor Studio on Washington Street. She exhibited in the Easy Street Gallery, the Candle House Studio, and later at the Kenneth Taylor Galleries. After the death of Maud Stumm in 1935, Hoffmeier took over the direction of the annual Sidewalk Art Show, which she ran for the next eighteen years “with untiring cheerfulness and unflagging interest.” She was one of the founding members of the Artists Association of Nantucket and served on its first executive committee.
A graduate of Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley, Massachuetts, Hoffmeier taught art classes at the college for several years. Born in New York in 1915, Campanella studied at the Leonardo Da Vinci Art School where the curriculum was based on the Naples Academy founded in the 1440s. He took this classical Renaissance training to the streets of New York, then-rural Astoria, Monhegan Island, and Wyoming.
As an easel artist for the Works Progress Administration (WPA) in the 1930s he painted and taught in Rock Springs, Wyoming. There his style became Abstract and works of Classical Abstraction were recognized in art reviews and exhibitions. He was represented by the Rehn Gallery in New York until the death of Frank Rehn in 1956. His work has been shown at The Art Institute of Chicago, Carnegie Institute, Brooklyn Museum, Corcoran Art Gallery, Denver Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, San Diego Museum, San Francisco Museum, Seattle Museum, Toledo Museum, Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Universities of Nebraska, Tennessee and Wyoming. He was a Fellow at the MacDowell Colony in 1968. Retrospective shows of his work have been held at Hunter College (1995) and the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art (2007).

Charles Green studied at Leigh’s School of Fine Art and under the engraver, J W Whymper, before quickly establishing himself as a painter and illustrator. Specialising in genre pieces, he joined the Langham Sketching Club and was elected to the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours (ARI 1864; RI 1867).
His elder brother, Henry Towneley Green, was also a member. His contribution of contemporary subjects to the early numbers of The Graphic were admired by Van Gogh, but he was best known for his depiction of period settings and for his illustrations to The Old Curiosity Shop...

Tom Perkinson was born in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1940. He was raised in the country and developed a love for the natural landscape. He discovered that he had a talent for art while in elementary school. Art quickly became his chosen passion. During high school he studied at John Herron Institute of Art in Indianapolis. After high school, he studied at the Chicago Academy of Art.
He left Indiana to pursue an undergraduate degree in Oklahoma. Each year while attending the university, he was invited to stage an annual exhibit of his work. Leader was born in Worcester as Benjamin Leader Williams, the son, and first child of eleven children, of notable civil engineer Edward Leader Williams (1802–79) and Sarah Whiting (1801–88). His father was described as a "non conformist dissenter" and his mother was a Quaker – their marriage in an Anglican church resulted in them being disowned by the Society of friends.
Leader's father was a keen amateur artist – a friend of John Constable – and Benjamin would often accompany him on sketching trips along the banks of the River Severn. His brother, also Edward Leader Williams, later became a notable civil engineer who was knighted for his work, and is now mainly remembered for designing Manchester ship canal...
