Bindewald was born in Charlottenburg. He moved to Berlin in 1914 where he studied till 1924 at the Berliner Kunst Akademie. Bindewald travelled in Europe, but mainly stayed in Germany and certainly never was in China. This painting was made in Europe, presumably in the China Town of Berlin. Bindewald received several commisions in Germany from factory owners who wanted their factories painted inside, usually with workers, as well as outside. In the present painting the sitter on the right seems to be a man with a Manchurian background, wearing the brown coat reserved for the highest aristocracy in China.
In China the black sleeve-ends completely cover the hands, indicating that the high aristocracy does not have to do any manuel labour. This man clearly is not a factory worker but he possibly is the (co)- owner of the factory in the background and as such might need his hands to do at least some writing. Angular Times The next one in the Risque series. After my previous colored pencil drawing ‘Risque – 18-01-22 I wanted to experiment with angular structures again. The reason is that I already did one in my roundism style (Risque – 11-01-22). One could say I was looking for yet another challenge. In the description to aforementioned drawing I wrote about cross-overs between abstraction and realism. This time it was time to set loose this ambition of mine on straight-edges plains. See if I can get away with a realistic impression wrapped in abstraction than it lets on at first glance. Flash Lightning The reference picture is taken during the session of December 30th 2021. That was a great one and I directly fell in love with her chair and rugged blanket. Notwithstanding her roundness by definition Julia happened to took this position with her arms spread. Her left leg was placed in a spectacular angled position. The result was a flash lightning, running from her toes up her leg and spine, branching towards her arms. The tonal rhythym of light and dark plains did the rest. I could not think of a better model and a better position. The Cat Executing the drawing and almost finished I felt something was missing though. It seemed the left corner did look a bit empty. It needed an introductory detail. There simply was only one thing that came to mind, almost automatically: her cat. She happens to have a Scottish Fold...

Pareja 07 is a unique contemporary modern abstract sculpture by Spanish artist Eduardo Lacoma from his latest series Pareja, Spanish for couple. The sculpture consists of two handmade constructions from cut, welded and polished steel, that are mounted together to form a true complementary couple. The outer element is 5 mm carbon steel which has been varnished, the inner element is 5 mm corten steel which has been oxidized. Due to the manual process of building and finishing, each element has its own characteristic look, sometimes very smooth, sometimes a little rough but always very sophisticated. From all sides it offers intriguing views, now more closed, then more open. It fits perfectly in a contemporary modern interior setting, on a side table, on a shelf or even on a plinth. It evokes feelings of mid-century modern design whilst being a one-of-a-kind 21st century piece.
Eduardo Lacoma (1968, Spain) is a practicing sculptor since many years, in addition to his career as an electronics technician. Being profoundly inspired by art during a trip to Barcelona in his teens, he taught himself the fine art of sculpting, combining materials such as iron, steel and stone. Living and working in Pamplona in the Basque region of Spain, he was originally inspired by the architecture of Gaudi.
