Erberto Carboni 'Delfino' Lounge Chair for Arflex
By Arflex, Erberto Carboni
Located in Tilburg, NL
Erberto Carboni 'Delfino' Lounge Chair designed in 1954 for Arflex, Italy. New, Current production. Delfino armchair by Erberto Carboni is a significant example of the so-called "organic" furniture, which develops in the 1950s and draws inspiration from the forms of nature. The Delfino armchair has a strong personality, with a very evident graphic sign, that makes it perfect for both home and hospitality space. This wonderful chair is available in a wide range of upholstery options. Please ask us about the possibilities. Designed by Erberto Carboni: Graphic designer, poster designer and illustrator (Parma 1899 - Milan 1984). Graduated in architecture at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Parma (in 1921, earning an honorary diploma), he immediately started working as a graphic designer, opening a studio in his hometown (he developed advertising material for some local companies). He also began to work as an illustrator, collaborating with some publishing houses in setting up the iconography of volumes of consumer fiction and beginning to work with some magazines, such as "Lidel", "Novella", "Dramma", "Emporium", "Le Grandi Firme". In 1932 he moved to Milan, where he came into contact with Studio Boggeri and Olivetti Advertising...

Elegant French Iron Fire Screen, New, Handmade, 22" to 35" Wide, 22.4" Tall
Located in Soest, NL
Replica of an antique original. Produced exactly as it used to be made ??and they are thus difficult to distinguish from an old original. Important advantage of this type of fire screen is that, while elegant, you don't really notice it, you just enjoy the fire. It is of a simple yet elegant simplicity. It is beautiful, rustic and classic. It quietly enhances the fireplace's charm. It is present without taking the attention away from the fire and the other fireplace accessories. The black color of this new handmade screen supports this effect. The holes in the mesh are small enough to protect against the sparks, but large enough to limit the heat radiation of the fireplace as little as possible. The fireplace screen fits in both a classic and a modern interior. center panel: 50 cm (19.7") wide, Side panels: each 20 cm (7.9") wide. The functional width is 6 cm (2.4") less for the firescreen to stand by itself, or a functional width of 57 cm (23") up to 89 cm (35"). At a width of 57 cm (23") the screen is 22 cm (8.7") deep and at 89 cm (35") wide it is 13 cm (5.1") deep. Color: black (matt). This fireplace screen is handmade and can therefore show imperfections (paint, finish, etc.) that do not occur in industrial production. We cannot provide any guarantees on these imperfections. We can deliver this type of fireplace screen in different sizes. The number of panels can vary from 2 to 6. It is also available in several heights. It cannot be customized, but due to the possible variations it is suitable for most fireplaces. Contrary to popular belief, it is often not necessary for the fireplace screen to cover the entire height of the inside of the fireplace. A height of 50 cm (19.7") is usually sufficient for a fire screen if a quiet fire is lit with dry, suitable wood. We have a unique and specialized collection of antique and used fireplace accessories...

Antique Map of North and South America by Pierre Antoine Tardieu (1784-1869)
Located in Langweer, NL
This is an original antique map titled "Carte Générale et Politique de l'Amérique," depicting the political and geographical features of North and South America. This map, created by Pierre Antoine Tardieu, illustrates the continent's boundaries, major regions, and significant features as understood in the early 19th century. Map Details: - **Title**: Carte Générale et Politique de l'Amérique - **Creator**: Pierre Antoine Tardieu (1784-1869) - **Publication Date**: Early 19th century - **Dimensions**: Approximately 34.5 x 43.5 cm (13.5 x 17.25 inches) - **Features**: The map includes detailed representations of North and South America, highlighting political boundaries, major cities, rivers, and mountain ranges. The title cartouche is located in the lower right corner, and the outlines are hand-colored to distinguish different regions and countries. Condition Overview: 1. Paper Quality: The paper shows typical signs of aging, such as slight yellowing, but remains in good condition without major tears or damage. 2. Edges and Corners: The edges are slightly worn, with minor fraying and small tears, particularly near the center fold. These imperfections do not significantly impact the overall readability or aesthetic value. 3. Center Fold: A center fold is present, which is common for maps of this period that were often folded for storage or publication. The fold appears intact without significant separation or damage, except for a small split at the lower end. 4. Color and Print Quality: The hand-colored outlines remain vibrant and clear, highlighting the borders of different regions. The print quality is excellent, with sharp, legible text and detailed illustrations. 5. Staining and Spots: There are a few spots and stains, particularly near the edges and along the fold. These do not obscure any critical details of the map. Historical Context Around the year 1800, the Americas were a region of significant political change and exploration. Here’s an overview of the region during that period: Political Landscape 1. North America: - United States: The United States was a young nation, having gained independence from Great Britain in 1776. The early 19th century was a period of westward expansion and the establishment of new states. - Canada: Canada was divided into British colonies, including Upper Canada (Ontario) and Lower Canada (Quebec). The British maintained control over these territories following the American Revolution. - Mexico: Mexico was part of the Spanish Empire, known as New Spain. It would gain independence from Spain in 1821. 2. Central and South America: - Spanish Colonies: Much of Central and South America was under Spanish colonial rule. Significant regions included New Granada (Colombia), Peru, and the Viceroyalty of the Rio de la Plata (Argentina). - Portuguese Brazil: Brazil was a Portuguese colony and the largest territory in South America. It would gain independence from Portugal in 1822. - Independence Movements: The early 19th century was marked by independence movements across Latin America, led by figures such as Simón Bolívar and José de San Martín, which resulted in the creation of new nations. 3. Caribbean: - The Caribbean islands were controlled by various European powers, including Spain, France, Great Britain, and the Netherlands. These islands were significant for their sugar plantations and as hubs of the Atlantic slave trade. Socio-Economic Conditions 1. Trade and Commerce: - The Americas were integral to global trade, exporting commodities such as sugar, tobacco, cotton, and coffee. The port cities of Havana, Veracruz, and Buenos Aires were crucial trade...

This antique and entirely hand-carved alabaster chandelier will light up your days and evenings in a way that no modern fixture ever could. Anyone who has ever seen one in real life knows exactly what we are talking about. For this stunning, four light specimen they clearly used the perfect alabaster rock, because this unique shade comes with numerous and evenly divided black veins. That combined with the whiter veins and patches that have formed in this mineral stone over a period of thousands of years makes it truly special. We have several interior designer clients who are looking for these largest of alabaster chandeliers and they know that finding one over 25 inches in diameter is like the proverbial needle in the haystack. This not only is one of the largest (in diameter) antique alabaster pendants that we have ever had the pleasure of offering, it also is one of the deepest/highest. However, what takes this rare size chandelier to a level of its own are the scrolling leaf and flower patterns that are deeply and sharply hand carved all around the body. The original rope hanging to this monumental chandelier was 'shot' and we replaced it with bronzed chain that perfectly complements the entire look and feel of this majestic pendant. Combined with the large, original and height adjustable alabaster canopy this rare light can be used and enjoyed in all kinds of interiors and in all kinds of living spaces. For it to still be in this very good condition after more than 100 years is like an ode to the craftsmanship of early 1900 artisans in Europe. We could shoot many more photos, but you still would not be able to see the true beauty of this chandelier in general and the one of a kind, supersize shade in particular. In real life (or in person) our antiques always have that little bit extra and this unique and truly large alabaster chandelier...
