Large Wall plate by Royal Tichelaar Makkum Royal Tichelaar Makkum wall plate. A Dutch manufacturer from Friesland. A Northern province in The Netherlands. A large wallplate of 34.5 cm diagonal with hand-painted floral and Peacock feather in vase decor. Marked with the mark Makkum (in Shield) Used after 1945 and model # 385 (catalog). The wall plate measures 5.5 cm high and 34.5 cm diagonal. The weight is 940 grams After initially producing bricks and tiles, the company focused on traditional decorative pottery since 1890. In 1960 the company obtained the Royal designation on the occasion of its 300th anniversary. The company has been located in Makkum since 1689, but a map from 1572 commissioned by Caspar de Robles already shows a briccaria or brick factory where the Koninklijke Tichelaar factory is now located.
