Two riders - black and white photography
By Allan I. Teger
Located in New York, NY
This beautiful piece comes as print only with a certificate of authenticity from Contmepop Gallery. Framing options are available upon request. "I remember the moment that the idea for Bodyscapes® came to me. I was thinking that the shape and structure of the universe repeated itself at every level and suddenly I had the image in my mind of a skier going down a breast. This was it - the universe repeating its shapes - a body looking like a mountain. It was also an example of two realities coexisting. The picture could be seen as a landscape and it could also be seen as a body. Although they were different, both perceptions were right at the same time. I knew instantly that I had an entire series of images waiting to be captured on film" black and white photography miniature photography sport photography...

Signed 1963 ROBERT INDIANA print (Robert Indiana prints)
By Robert Indiana
Located in NEW YORK, NY
Robert Indiana ERR 1963: A rare, sought-after early Robert Indiana print defined by surreal, experimental cinematic-like energy. Hand-signed by Indiana on the lower right. Medium: Photoengraving and etching on Rives BFK. Dimensions: 4 1/2x6 inches (including margins). Very good overall vintage condition. Signed, dated and inscribed "Artist's Proof 'E'" and "CHI" in pencil, lower margin. Rare Trial proof, aside from the main edition of 60. Printed by the artist at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Further background: According to Susan Sheehan, Indiana printed only six progressive trial proofs at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he learned printmaking from 1949 to 1952, under the supervision of Vera Berdich (inscribed "CHI"). Additionally 13 trial proofs were printed at the Pratt Graphic Art Center, New York (these inscribed "NYC"). The regular edition was printed by Atelier Georges Lablanc, Paris and published by Galleria Schwarz, Milan to be included in International Anthology of Contemporary Engraving: The International Avant-Garde: America Discovered, Volume 5. The plate used for this print was originally given to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago by the R.R. Donnelly Company, printers of Life magazine. Indiana discovered the plate while visiting Berdich at the school and decided to use it in his contribution to the Avant-garde portfolio. Sheehan 29. Robert Indiana 1991: "When I went back to the Art Institute of Chicago at that particular time - I think I was judging a show - I learned that Vera Berdich (Indiana's former teacher) was still there and the idea occurred to me, wouldn't it be fun to do a visiting artist etching, and she concurred. There on the floor was a box of copper plates and the images had been defaced on each one. These copper plates had been donated by the R.R. Donnelly Company, which put out Life magazine. I used to work for Donnelly. My only commercial art job was with them doing the little drawing that appear in the Yellow Pages, like lawnmowers and vacuum cleaners and things like that. Anyway, the idea being that the student was supposed to turn the plate over to use the back side and forget about the image on the front. But I found this image of this actress sitting on her bed with her ironing board and decided it was only very lightly defaced, so I asked if I could use it. And the word "Err" was actually added in New York; it was not in the first proofs in Chicago. Two weeks later, I was thumbing through LIFE magazine and there was this actress in the same page..." About the artist: Robert Indiana is best known for his iconic “LOVE” image, which has appeared across media including sculptures, prints, and paintings and epitomizes the artist’s graphic, predominantly text-based Pop art practice. Throughout his career, Indiana reimagined the aesthetics of American advertisements...

West Coast
By Mindaugas Gabrenas
Located in Hudson, NY
Listing is for UNFRAMED print. Inquire within for framing. Edition of 20 CURRENT EXHIBITION - runs through February 25, 2017. Any framed photographs purchased during the show will be after February 25th. If the exhibition piece is sold or the customer orders a different print size, the photograph is produced upon purchase. Please allow two weeks for production. Shipping time depends on method of shipping. Price is subject to availability. The Robin Rice Gallery reserves the right to adjust this price depending on the current exhibition of the photograph. ABOUT In this exhibition, Mindaugas Gabrenas invites us to reflect on the poetics of place through his lyrical and surrealist imagery. His hand-printed silver gelatin prints reveal abandoned regions, wild coasts and strange territories from Lithuania to Scotland to America. As a scientific innovator, he uses unique techniques and unconventional materials in order to create his whimsical, dream photos. In “Spinning The Wheel”, stars trace the sky in a curved motion and meet the water below creating a sense of the infinite. As Gabrenas explores and captures landscapes through very long exposures, he actually meditates and reflects on the world around him encouraging his viewers to imagine themselves within the landscapes and dream with him. In another image “Dream About an Empty House”, that was taken in Lithuania, we see a young girl from behind in a red polka dotted dress as she faces an abandoned home. Using his handmade camera he constructed by merging two cameras—a Kiev 88 and a Kodak Duaflex II. The viewfinder of the Duaflex serves as an additional filter on the lens of the Kiev 88, which is fixed to its body with several macro rings. Before shooting the film, he wraps it in black rye bread and waits several days for the mold to grow onto the film. The combination of these two techniques creates a sense of motion around the central figure. “Alternatives”, our invitational image, pulls us into Gabrenas’ world. The focused close-up and abstracted view of train tracks distorts a familiar shape into a strange and unusual form. The tracks lead you in the distance, a blurry city of New York. The ironic lack of human life in New York City conveys a mystifying sense of place. In “Something With a Head”, we’re taken to the Lithuanian seaside where silhouetted figures stand on sand dunes watching the central figure jumping off into the distance. This image is part of his “Dreamscapes”; a series of “dream projections” where the artist uses a light-leaking camera called Kiev 88 and expired Svema 64 film to give the photography a dusty and blurry quality. Born in Lithuania, he has been influenced by a myriad of artists’ techniques including the graceful elegance of Masao Yamamoto and the intricate compositions of Michael Kenna. However, Henri Cartier Bresson has perhaps had the greatest influence on Gabrenas’ photographic process and the patience it entails. Gabrenas has won numerous awards for his photography, including Black & White Magazine Portfolio Contest Winner, Audience Award Winner in SoHo Photo Gallery, Photo Democracy Award Winner, Foto filmic'13 Portfolio Award Winner, Tera Bella Media'13 2nd Place Winner. He has also been published in various publications including 'Black & White Magazine', ‘L’Oeil de la Photographie', ‘Adore Noir Magazine’, ’PH Magazine’, 'Foto blur', ‘Dodho Magazine’, ’Dahse', 'Shots', ‘DOC!’, ‘Monovisions’, and ‘Klassik Magazine’. By Guadalupe Laiz
Located in New York, NY
Ed. 1/7, signed on the recto, includes black frame. Guadalupe Laiz is an international artist, photographer and explorer born and raised in Argentina. Guadalupe’s main focus for the past ten years has been an extensive body of work capturing the beauty and uniqueness of the indigenous horses of Iceland, a country that has touched her deeply and continues to visit. Her work “Horses of Iceland” has been shown in exhibitions all over the world. This photograph is from her newest series "Among the Living." For this body of work, Laiz traveled across the African continent for six years, visiting Kenya, Namibia, Tanzania, Batswana, Rwanda, and Uganda. Forgoing comfort often for months at a time, she returned with intimate portraits of the charismatic and fierce, yet vulnerable and endangered animals she encountered. It is impossible to look at one of her photographs and not feel her subject’s innate individuality. As part of her artistic process, she spends time with each animal up close in its natural habitat, gets to know...

Not trying to show a subject for what it is, but for what it expresses. This is my way of telling stories, of translating my sensibility”. J-M. Lenoir A passion for nature from an early age led Lenoir to photography as a means to capture magical moments of nature and wildlife. Starting with wildlife and wide spaces, he developed his own vision of photography. Landscape photography is an eternal quest for atmosphere where the light and the quest of beauty are key references, his aesthetic landmark. His photographic intention relies on his magnetic attraction for wide spaces combined with his quest of beautiful lights. A way that inspires him and his instinct of freedom. In photography, he is looking for simple pictures, which go straight to the subject core, with very few things in the frame. Lenoir follows a suggestive approach: he does not try to show a subject as it is, but to share what it expresses. It is his way of telling stories and conveying his sensibility, like his recent work “Evanescence”. Combining his passion for pictures with rugged landscapes, he organizes and guides photo tours with Photographes du Monde agency for seven years. From north of Europe (Scotland, Norway, Finland) to South america (Chile and Bolivia),his photographic world leads him into areas of wilderness from where he draws his main source of inspiration. Lenoir is an ambassador for Fujifilm cameras and Cokin filters. 49" x 70" Ed. of 5 $9,600 & larger 41" x 59" Ed. of 10 $6,800 36" x 50" Ed. of 10 $5,200 30" x 42" Ed. of 5 $3,600 Photography, ocean...
