This artwork titled "Wave" 1975 is a metal and glass sculpture multiple by noted Israeli artist Menashe Kadishman 1932-2015. It is signed, numbered 1/7 and dated under the main metal part. The size assembled as intended by the artist is 21 inches long, 10 inches high and 3 inches wide. The all metal and the glass and metal part disunited are 18 x 10 inches each. The rectangle part at the top is movable and can be oriented in different position (see picture #1 and #7) It is in very good condition. The large version of this sculpture is referenced in the two following publications: Pierre Restany, Kadishman, Tel Aviv, 1996, illustration of the large version pp. 76-77 Jacob Baal-Teshuva (ed.), Menashe Kadishman, Munich, 2007, no. 22, illustration of the large version p. 17 About the artist: Menashe Kadishman (August 21, 1932 - May 8, 2015) was an Israeli sculptor and painter. Menashe Kadishman was born in the British Mandate Palestine in 1932. His father, who was a pioneer, died when Kadishman was 15 years old. The young Menashe left school to help his mother with housework and to earn money. From 1947 to 1950, Kadishman studied with the Israeli sculptor Moshe Sternschuss at the Avni Institute of Art and Design in Tel Aviv, and in 1954 with the Israeli sculptor Rudi Lehmann in Jerusalem. In 1959, he moved to London, where he attended Saint Martin's School of Art and the Slade School of Art. During 1959 and 1960 he also studied with Anthony Caro and Reg Butler. He remained there until 1972; he had his first one-man show there in 1965 at the Grosvenor Gallery. His sculptures of the 1960s were Minimalist in style, On May 8, 2015, Menashe Kadishman died after he was hospitalized at Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer. About the artist: Cecil Charles Windsor Aldin RBA (28 April 1870 - 6 January 1935) was a British artist and illustrator best known for his paintings and sketches of animals, sports, and rural life. Born in Slough, he was educated at Eastbourne College and Solihull Grammar School. He studied anatomy at South Kensington and animal painting under William Frank Calderon. He lived at The Abbots, Sulhamstead Abbots from 1913 to 1914 and was church warden of St Mary's church. Early influences included Randolph Caldecott and John Leech. His drawings first made their way into print in The Building News of 12 September 1890, and began to appear throughout many popular journals and magazines; his work was published in The Graphic in 1891. His illustrations include two of the original 1894 magazine publications of stories from Rudyard Kipling's The Second Jungle Book, the 1910 edition of Charles Dickens' The Pickwick Papers and The Bunch Book (1932, about Bunch, a Sealyham Terrier) by James Douglas. He also published a short series of fully illustrated books in 1923, Old Manor Houses and Old Inns. His village scenes and rural buildings were executed in chalk, pencil and wash sketching was used for country scenes. Aldin was an enthusiastic sportsman and a Master of Fox Hounds and many of his pictures illustrated hunting. An early work on a tiger in a zoo was studied from life, but found to be a copyright of the ideas in a photograph by Gambier Bolton. A popular book by Aldin was Sleeping Partners, a sequence of pastel drawings of his dogs on a couch. It included his Irish Wolfhound Micky and his favorite model, Cracker, a Bull Terrier with a dark patch over one eye. He also did some work for Cadburys advertising. Born 28 April 1870. He was educated at Eastbourne College then Solihull Grammar School. Cecil Aldin's father was a keen amateur artist so Cecil started drawing at a very young age. He studied art at the studio of Albert Moore and then the National Art Training School which later became The Royal College of Art. After this he spent a summer with the fine animal painter and teacher, Frank Calderon. In 1892 he bombarded the illustrated periodicals with his illustrations and thereby started a long association with The Illustrated London News. This artwork titled "Mirror Pass" 1977 is an original color screenprint by noted Native American artist Earl Biss, 1947-1998. It is hand signed, dated and numbered 37/100 in pencil by the artist. The artwork (image) size is 29 x 21 inches, framed size is 38.5 x 30 inches. Custom framed in a wooden silver and blue frame, with fabric matting. It is in excellent condition. About the artist: Born in Washington state, Earl Biss became a well-known Native American artist. He was raised by his grandmother on the Crow reservation in Montana and earned a scholarship to the Institute of American Indian Art in Santa Fe where he studied jewelry design. He attended the San Francisco Art Institute and then traveled widely in Europe where he was heavily influenced by the impressionist style of Monet and other European artists. His paintings have a dream-like, abstract quality with Indian figures merging with the landscape. He worked on numerous paintings, sometimes as many as twenty, simultaneously. On October 18, 1998, he died from a stroke while in his studio painting. • 1965 - 1966 Studied at the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
