A modern chair with a cultural heritage, expression of the creative genius of Vico Magistretti who designed it in 1964. 905 is an elegant chair made of solid wood and cowhide, where design translates to practical simplicity.
Produced by Cassina until 2000, this chair has now been relaunched, the finishes and details having been updated from the original archive model. The sophisticated elegance of the frame, which features cylindrical legs and curved arm-rests, has been rejuvenated thanks to Cassina’s extensive experience in handling leather, not to mention the company’s high quality carpentry skills. The complex nature of this piece is expressed in a design that looks simple but fully reflects the genius quality of the original concept, a veritable masterpiece of the crafts tradition proper to Meda, in the Brianza area north of Milan, the trademark registered by Cassina and a guarantee of utmost quality. The frame, in finest quality wood, bespeaks the perfect combination of the artisanal tradition and premier CNC technology, while the overall design stands out for the self-supporting seat crafted from one single piece of saddle leather, curved and slotted into the frame. The decorative stitching has been discontinued, while the rear of the chair still features the leather belt that lends support to the back and enhances its comfort quotient.

The LC3 armchair marked the separation of the metal frame from the upholstery, reflecting Modernist architecture theory, where the support load-bearing structure of the building was separated from the rest. In this case, four discrete cushions are set inside a cage of painted or chrome-finished steel tubes. The same device is adopted for all the other pieces in the collection, from the armchair with an arm-rest on one side only or on both, to the two- or three seater sofas. Over a period of many years, Cassina worked closely with Charlotte Perriand, her heir, as well as with the Fondation Le Corbusier reinterpreting the original design while respecting its original intent, to bring new versions and finishes of this furniture to market. Rob Parry (born in The Hague, Netherlands, 1925) studied at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague where his most important teachers were Cor Alons, Paul Schuitema and Gerrit Rietveld, whom Parry worked for. It was Rietveld’s firm that laid the foundation for Parry’s interest in exhibition design.
In 1950, Rob Parry started his own firm. Emile Truijen was his design partner from 1954 to 1958. Together they developed a myriad of designs, including one of the icons of Dutch design: the double post box. Up until 1995, he designed interiors, furniture, stands, exhibitions, Jewellery, lettering and toys.
In his designs, Rob Parry experimented with new materials and techniques.
