Our painting, dated 1889, transports us to a captivating scene just some minutes after sunset. The canvas is imbued with a beautiful golden glow as the sun's last rays kiss the sky. A very interesting compositional solution, where among the hills buried in vegetation, a lowland with a small pond is depicted, where a young shepherd has brought his cow to the watering hole. In the distance, on the hill, a windmill is visible, creating an emphasis on the perspective and depth of the composition. The nuanced interplay of light and shadow adds of complexity to the scene. The calmness of the pastoral setting below contrasts markedly with presence of gloomy clouds looming above. This juxtaposition creates a harmonious balance, presenting a duality inherent in nature.
