I WOKE UP ASLEEP - Panoramic Oil Painting of a Bathroom Scene From a Dream
Located in Signal Mountain, TN
The interconnectivity between one's waking life and one’s dreams offers a point of convergence between the real and the surreal, the ordinary and the absurd. Daily observations are recycled into nightly visions, and consciousness becomes an in-between state. Experiences turn into memories which turn into dreams which turn into experiences. This piece appears as part of two-person exhibition with Jason Stout at Channel To Channel...

AS FAR AS A VIEW - Folded Tapestry Collage of Scenic Landscapes w/ Palm Trees
Located in Signal Mountain, TN
AS FAR AS A VIEW, is part of a series of works that consider the decorative and escapist role of the landscape in the home. When seeking beauty in the world to distract us, delight us, and bring us into our own world, we seek something that stirs within us a memory or a dream. Traditionally, tapestries are a storytelling media as well as décor. This particular work is constructed from commercially printed tapestries acquired from a Chinese supplier during the pandemic. These tell a story of arrested, yet ample, desire. On one side of the piece we see a sunrise from a beach with palm trees. Gently folded over to the right is a second tapestry. In this the artist has chose to expose the desaturated backside which obscures slightly the third tapestry landscape of beach scene around midday. It brings to mind the passage of time much like time lapse photography...

Bernardo Bertolucci, Silver Gelatin Print
By Jack Robinson
Located in Memphis, TN
Italian director Bernardo Bertolucci, born in Parma and the son of poets, was himself a published poet at the age of eighteen. He moved into films at twenty as an assistant director to Pier Paolo Pasolini, himself a poet turned filmmaker. When Jack Robinson photographed the twenty-eight year old Bertolucci on April 12, 1969, he had not yet started filming on The Conformist (1970) featuring the actors Jean-Louis Trintignant and Dominique Sanda. In Vogue, Bertolucci is described as “a shy man who moves the way he speaks and smiles, gently but cautiously, with sleepy brown eyes on the lookout for the worst”. As a filmmaker, he would achieve notoriety for Last Tango in Paris...

OYV-19 - Contemporary Abstract Collage Painting- Yellow, measuring tape
Located in Signal Mountain, TN
OYV-19 is part of Eric Mack's ongoing body of work utilizing multi-media, complex compositions, and a grid centered around urban design. Using a grid to create the framework of the painting, Mack has re-purposed an old Lenny Kravitz album cover as the structure of the piece. On the edges of the piece you can see a complex edge consisting of a faux leather album cover, nylon mesh, and torn paper. As imagery, Mack has chosen musical notes, tape measure, and other music composition elements through Zerox copy adhered by matte medium to the surface. Mack then creates his own color to further tweak and personalize the piece. Eric Mack (b.1976, Charleston) creates mathematically based renderings with a distinct post-modern twist. Works are informed with super imposed grids, patterns, and portals. Layered surfaces are created with paint, found objects, natural fibers, and synthetic substrates that explore the systems of our visual world. His most recent show “Charting the Terrain” is on view now at the California African American Museum in Los Angeles was covered by the Los Angeles Times, KCRW, and LALA Magazine. His last solo exhibition was titled "Impossible Architectures" at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2017. Recent group shows include "Abstract Mind" at the Czong Institute of Contemporary Art, South Korea, "Small Works 2017 at Trestle Gallery, Brooklyn, "Checkered History", Outpost Artist Resources, Brooklyn, N.Y. 2015; Collections include High Museum Atlanta, Ing Investments, Hartsfield Jackson International Airport - Atlanta + Atlanta Gas & Light Co. “PRLS-1000” contemporary abstract collage, mixed media, purple, blue, multi
Located in Signal Mountain, TN
"PRLS-1000" is part of Eric Mack's urban grid series. Using a grid to create the framework of the painting, Mack creates movement across the piece with dynamic techniques of washy underpainting underneath matted pieces of paper, and thread. His paintings have been described as "intellect on top of emotion." Eric Mack (b.1976, Charleston) creates mathematically based renderings with a distinct post-modern twist. Works are informed with super imposed grids, patterns, and portals. EQUIVALENCE 124- Acrylic on cut Linen - Red, Pink Abstract Geometric Painting
By Linda King Ferguson
Located in Signal Mountain, TN
This painting on cut linen canvas by Linda King Ferguson depicts a diamond shape that is dominated by a horizontal vesica piscis shape. The two intersecting circles are a dark salmon orange and a deep wine red (left to right). The canvas at the intersection of the two circles has been cut and peeled back to reveal that the back of the painting has been painted pink. While the trangular shape above the interseccting circles has been painted an ashy brown, the lower section has been left raw. Her Equivalence Series began as a feminist project; works that subvert the historically male gaze and a material language speaking of gendered concerns. Her color choices first came from Helen Molesworth’s essay, Painting With Ambivalence, published in WACK! Art of the Feminist Revolution. The Essay includes a large reproduction of Mary Heilmann’s 1979 painting...
