This piece is from a body of work called 'Vital Signs’ which springs from the domain of hospitals and illness through combinations of hand-woven and tufted textiles and minimalist box-like objects that hang on walls or embed in the textiles themselves. The textiles refer to items of worn clothing, flattened identity, and superstition that come with illness and extended hospital stays. Not Today, Contemporary Black and White Photograph, 2021 24" 16" x 0.75" (HxWxD) Digital Print on Aluminium Hand-signed by the artist. As with the concept of memento mori, this black and white photographic portrait brings together life and death in close proximity. The skull is held closely to the human's body, as if the bones now take the place of their own head. Taxidermy and preserved animal bones bring the living face-to-face with the fleeting nature of life, adding to our cabinet of curiosities. This work by Amanda Lomax conjures up thoughts of Georgia O'Keeffe and her time spent out west in New Mexico's desert landscape. Artist Commentary: Donald is a professional model, gem collector, and all around Renaissance Man. When we found this unusual skull of a three horned ram, it seemed as unique and special as he is. Sometimes we feel like facing the world head on. Sometimes we feel like presenting ourselves behind a three-horned sheep skull.

SUNDOG 32 is a composition created from two acrylic on panel paintings, belonging to a series inspired by the meteorological phenomenon of Sundogs (parhelia), occurrences of bright spots straddling the Sun in a 22° halo. The composition consists of two singular polygon panels – triangular (upper) and quadrilateral (lower). The forms are put together, creating a dynamic relationship and an illusion of geometric shapes. The line connecting the two juxtaposed polygons is slightly angled, adding movement in the disruption of symmetry. "I don’t do enough red paintings. I like red, but somehow it doesn’t end up in my work all that often, or it ends up pretty muted and earthy by the end. When I was lighting the sculpture upon which this painting is based, I knew I wanted to do something with the red lights I had. As with previous work, this painting explores entanglement as both a compositional structure and as an artistic idea. The representational part of the painting is pushed as close to a photographic rendering as I could at the time. Meanwhile, I’ve contrasted that with flat graphic elements. I also wanted to do something interesting with the cast shadow of the form: whereas in some previous works in the series the main form either had a traditional cast shadow grounding the it to the illusion of a ground plane, or no cast shadow which left it floating within the shallow depth of the image, in Untitled Construct 5 I wanted to do something more specific with the cast shadow. The idea came to me to invert it to be pure white. Technically this was a bit of a challenge because the whitest oil paints take months to dry – so this work had quite a bit of ‘sit and wait time’ between layers. Personally, I enjoy the composition of this painting because the red attracts the eye towards the bottom left of the painting, but the contrasting movements in black, gray and white pull the eye up and over...

This painting is inspired by a non-representational compositional sketch that I turned into a sculpture and then an oil painting. Whereas previous works were treating the sculptural form strictly as a still life, in Untitled Construct 2 I wanted to bring the work back to its abstract origins. I lit the sculpture with colored lights...

I have sketchbooks filled with small thumbnail drawings which I usually base compositional arrangements upon. These are non-representational: just lines, arcs, mass tones, etc – basically just playing with formal elements. I had an idea to recreate these doodles as small sculptures. I liked the results, and wanted to have it feed back into my painting work as an intermediate step. That idea grew and I began lighting the sculptures with colored lights...

AS FAR AS A VIEW, is part of a series of works that consider the decorative and escapist role of the landscape in the home. When seeking beauty in the world to distract us, delight us, and bring us into our own world, we seek something that stirs within us a memory or a dream. Traditionally, tapestries are a storytelling media as well as décor. This particular work is constructed from commercially printed tapestries acquired from a Chinese supplier during the pandemic. These tell a story of arrested, yet ample, desire. On one side of the piece we see a sunrise from a beach with palm trees. Gently folded over to the right is a second tapestry. In this the artist has chose to expose the desaturated backside which obscures slightly the third tapestry landscape of beach scene around midday. It brings to mind the passage of time much like time lapse photography...
