Artist Statement:
"Flyboy came out of characters of colour within popular culture. I hate saying “popular culture,” but it’s really popular culture. I mean you look at cartoons. You’ve got animated sponges and ducks and birds and whatever, and it’s very rare to see a popular character within any medium that is African-American, Latino, even Asian.
What I wanted to do was create that, but in a space of high art and be able to have some historical context to that character. So I looked at the Tuskegee Airmen...

Canopo - Anthropomorphic Bronze Sculpture, Etruscan, Archaic, Monumental
By Angelo Canevari
Located in New York, NY
This bronze anthropomorphic sculpture is part of the "Canopo" series. With a modern interpretation, Canevari revisited the sacred vases of the ancient Etruscan civilization from the regions of Tuscany and Umbria in Italy. The Etruscans were a polytheistic civilization that believed that all visible phenomena were a manifestation of divine power. Canevari interprets the theme's secrecy and mysteriousness in this monumental yet intimate piece. The curved anthropomorphic and totemic shape of the sculpture opens into a magical inside, hiding more secrets and sacred objects. The two sides open like embracing arms, revealing a star-shaped medallion and a glass pendulum. The use of rings and solid bronze blocks hanging and protruding from the surface creates a theatrical play of light and shadows.
Angelo Canevari is an Italian sculptor from a long lineage of artists active in Rome since the 17th century. He has been commissioned several works by the Vatican, including the Bronze Doors of the Cathedral of Belluno and the Vatican Coins...

Mother and Child -miniature figurative bronze by New York artist Noa Bornstein
By Noa Bornstein
Located in Glen Ellen, CA
This lovely small bronze in a warm honey brown patina is a depiction of a mother enveloping her child, inspired by a scene sculptor Noa Bornstein witnessed at a train station.
The optional wooden base (as shown on the second image) is included. Listed dimensions include the wooden base. This humanistic, figurative sculpture is ideal for a desk or table-top, coffee table, or shelf.
Edition 4 of 4.
Noa Bornstein describes herself as “a draw-er”. Many of her sculptures begin as a quick drawing or impression - from memory, from dreams, or from life itself. “Watching a man walking down the street, I take out my little pad and am compelled to capture something of his gait, the rhythm, shape, whatever attracts my attention,” says Bornstein.
Figurative sculptor and painter Noa Bornstein was born in San Rafael, California, and grew up mostly in Los Angeles. She has lived and worked in New York City since 1986. Bornstein holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of California at Santa Cruz. Her sculptures have been shown at the Palm Beach Institute of Contemporary Art in Florida, the Rotunda Gallery in Brooklyn, and Grounds for Sculpture, Toad Hall...

bronze with silver nitrate patina
Executed in 1992; this example is one of ten artist's proofs aside from the numbered edition of 25, published by Artists Space.
Tom Otterness was born in Wichita, Kansas in 1952. He came to New York City in 1970 to study at the Arts Students League, and in 1973 took part in the Whitney Independent Study Program. In 1977 he became a member of Collaborative Projects, a pioneering community of independent artists, and took a leading role in organizing Colab’s 1980 Times Square Show, which was called “the first avant-garde art show of the ‘80s” by the Village Voice. Otterness is one of a handful of contemporary artists invited to design a balloon for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, for which he devised a tumbling Humpty-Dumpty in 2005. Otterness lives and works in New York.
Otterness may well be “the world’s best public sculptor,” as the art critic Ken Johnson opined in the New York Times in 2002. Public art is his focus, and Otterness has had major outdoor exhibitions of his sculptures on the Park Avenue Mall in New York (2003), in more than a dozen sites in downtown Indianapolis (2005), on the grounds of the Beverly Hills city hall (2005-06) and throughout Grand Rapids, Michigan (2006). His first solo exhibition, held at Brooke Alexander Gallery in New York in 1983, featured elements of The New World (1991), a white plaster frieze...
