This exceptional antique American silver teapot has a plain panelled octagonal form with swept shoulders.
The upper and lower rims of the body of the teapot is encompassed with a bright cut engraved alternating stylised leaf and chevron decorated border.
Either side of the teapot is embellished with a shaped oval cartouche, each encompassed with an applied, graduating stylised floral bud border accented with a ribbon bow to the upper portion.
One cartouche displays the contemporary bright cut engraved initial ‘K’ and the other remains vacant.
The body of the teapot is further ornamented with single paralleling pin struck borders to each panel.
The swept, panelled shoulders are embellished with a moulded reed decorated border to the rim.
This American silver teapot retains the original hinged domed panelled cover surmounted with the original and impressive silver acorn style finial.

Hallmarked with Chinese Export marks (900+ silver standard), Makers marks SF, (Sing Fat), city of Shanghai.
Sing Fat was a highly prolific Chinese retail silversmith, working in Shanghai and Canton between 1880 and 1940. All items by Sing Fat are characterized by high quality, unique design and incredible craftsmanship, so there is no surprise that the manufacturer’s fine pieces have always been in high demand.
Rare and outstanding are the best words to describe exquisite works, produced and retailed by Sing Fat. Not only did the manufacturer craft such rare silver pieces, as miniature furniture and feeding sets, but also demonstrated ultimate attention to nuances in terms of shapes, style, functionality and elegance. The one thing that Sing Fat silverwares have in common is undoubtedly “sensitive attention to detail and quality and often a novel approach to what could be a mundane object” [see A.Von Ferscht, Chinese Export Silver 1785-1940, 4th edition 2015].
Beautifully crafted, Sing Fat pieces combined traditional Chinese motifs and modernistic details, that seemed so attractive to foreign customers. Even typical for that period, shapes, forms and ornaments were presented in a completely new and unique way. The lotus form rose bowls, double-headed dragon-inspired irregular shapes and spectacular repoussé chrysanthemum garlands were among the traits that were so appealing to European buyers. An exceptional, fine antique George IV English sterling silver three piece tea service / set made by Charles Thomas Fox; part of our silver teaware collection
This exceptional antique sterling silver three piece tea service consists of a teapot, cream jug and sugar bowl.
Each piece has an oval rounded compressed form on to a collet base and four bracket style feet.
The body of each piece is embellished with chased flower and foliate decoration incorporating a shaped cartouche to either side, each displaying a contemporary bright cut engraved crest of a mower with his scythe proper habited*.
The upper rim of each piece is encompassed with a gadroon decorated border.
The swept shoulders and the swan necked spout of the teapot are further ornamented with chased floral and scrolling leaf decoration.
The original hinged hallmarked cover of the teapot is surmounted with a silver flower and leaf decorated finial.
The teapot is fitted with a C scroll sterling silver handle ornamented with an impressive leaf design incorporated into a scrolling thumbpiece.
The cream jug and sugar bowl have leaf decorated sterling silver C scroll handles and retain the original gilt interiors.
Each piece is supported by four impressive bracket style feet accented with floral and paw ornamentation in the classic Regency style.
The components of this exceptional antique teaware set were crafted by the renowned London silversmith Charles Thomas Fox.
* The crest pertains to the Pilkington family, who are found in the Counties of Lancashire and Yorkshire, although other families bearing the name are found further afield and a similar crest. Whether these families are genealogically connected is not known. The Pilkingtons, of Rivington in the County of Lancashire are probably the more ancient and senior line. Legend has it that a member of the family (which was said to be one of repute prior to the Norman Conquest of 1066) disguised himself when sought by Norman soldiers as a mower and escaped. A similar legend adheres to another Lancashire family, the De Traffords or Traffords in which a member of that family avoided capture by the Parliamentarians during the Civil War of the 17th Century by disguising himself as simple-minded thresher wielding a frail rather than the Pilkington's scythe.
There is certainly a possibility that this tea service was in the possession the baronetcy family of Pilkington, of Stanley in the County of Yorkshire who descended from Sir Alexander de Pilkington who held lands at Rivington during the reign of King Henry III. The baronet at the time of the manufacture of this tea service was Sir William Pilkington, the 8th Baronet (baptised 14th November 1775 died 30th 1850).

Wilhelm Wagenfeld
Wilhelm Wagenfeld completed an apprenticeship at the design office of the Bremen silverware factory of Koch & Bergfeld during the First World War. In addition, he attended the local applied arts school from 1916 to 1919. Between 1919 and 1922, he received a scholarship to the State Design Academy of Hanau/Main and trained to become a silversmith. In 1923, he set up a workshop at the Barkenhoff in Worpswede with Bernhard Hoetger and Heinrich Vogeler. This is also the year that he began studying at the State Bauhaus in Weimar. During this time, Wagenfeld designed works such as his famous Bauhaus lamp in 1924.
After the dissolution of the Bauhaus Weimar on 1 April 1925, he became a member of the German Werkbund and accepted the position of assistant to Richard Winkelmayer, the head of the metal workshop at the State Academy of Crafts and Architecture in Weimar. In 1928, he took over the direction of these metal workshops. He and many of the other teachers at the academy were fired in 1930 at the insistence of the NSDAP party, which was represented in the Thuringian Landtag.
Starting in 1930, this was followed by freelance work and a commission from the Thuringian Economics Ministry to supervise independent glassblowers. In addition, he was asked to begin teaching at the State Art Academy Grunewaldstrasse in Berlin-Schöneberg in 1931 and began working as a freelance employee of the Jena Schott...
