Scott Gordon, City, 2020
By Scott Gordon
Located in Sharon, VT
City welded steel, found objects 14.5 x 18 x 22 in. City evokes the spirit of an ancient metropolis—its architecture forged from myth. The composition rises like a temple complex or a sacred necropolis, where each vertical form suggests an obelisk, pylon, or ceremonial gateway. Arranged on a single platform, the elements feel timeless—weathered silhouettes standing in quiet alignment, like guardians of a forgotten order. With echoes of Egyptian geometry and monumentality, the piece suggests a place where structure and symbol merge. The spaces between forms carry as much weight as the forms themselves—voids as corridors, shadows as history. Gordon...

Solomon Islands Santa Cruz Hand Carved Conical Head "Duka" Figure, 1930s
Located in South Burlington, VT
Originally collected in the Solomon Islands in 1938, this one of a kind treasure from the south pacific comes from a private oceanic collection. This is a Solomon Islands Santa Cruz hand carved figure called a Duka, circa 1930s. It was carved in an extremely hard native wood and features a finely carved, unusual extended conical head, a handwoven loin cloth and turmeric encrustation. For your convenience, many of our photographs were taken in natural day light which accurately illuminate surface areas depicting original dark patina that you would expect from an important early carving such as this one. We will include a complimentary custom wood display base that you see photographed. Dimensions: 21.25 inches high Provenance: collected in l938 and originally acquired by a visiting French collecting tourist in the Solomon Islands then to dealer and Texas collector and to our private collection in year 2000 so could have been a specially crafted fine 1930s tourist sculpture piece for the visiting French tourist. History: Duka sculpture from Nendo Island, politically part of the Solomon Islands, is distinctive, and only a limited number of works have been documented. The conical extension at the back of the head represents a man's hairstyle. Called abe, its construction and shape was a symbol of wealth and high social status, and for older men, it also served the practical purpose of covering bald spots. All Nendo figure refer to deities or supernatural beings (Ellis: 2009, pp. 78-85) Auction sale: Bonhams Auctions April 28, 2015 sale. Exceptional Lime Container...

Scott Gordon, Altar II, 2021
By Scott Gordon
Located in Sharon, VT
Altar II Welded steel and found metal components 23 18.5 x 5in. This compact yet expressive steel sculpture evokes a sense of watchful presence and poised stillness. Constructed from welded and repurposed industrial fragments, Altar II assembles a seemingly abstract figure atop a rectangular base. A gently arched form with an affixed ring suggests a head in profile—open-eyed and alert—while a curved appendage anchors the composition with an anthropomorphic grace. Deeply evocative, the work explores gesture through geometry, invoking the timeless ritual of silent observation. Measures: 5 x 18.5 x 23 in. Artist statement: I seldom use stock material, but prefer distressed and rusted steel that has been scarred, bent, and made imperfect. In this state, the material becomes quite beautiful. There are figurative elements in my work, though I am more drawn to the non-figurative, to the raw and essential aspect of steel. The Industrial purpose of steel must be considered, its use in construction, manufacturing, the military. Steel is forged with enormous energy and power. The process is violent, loud. Here, it is still and approachable. The compositions are constructed mainly from found parts. Their relationships manifest as I interact with the material. The pieces interlock, balance, and become fitted before I fasten or weld them together. The engineering is elemental. Altering the material is avoided. The number of parts kept to a minimum. Art is my spiritual exercise, my selflessness. It identifies me as a creator and satisfies my human longing for place and purpose. It needs not to be great, or preeminent, or commercial. Art speaks because it is Primitive. It exists because it is sacred. Biography: Scott Gordon was born in Ridgewood, New Jersey in 1966. He attended the University of Denver where he studied business and the University of Washington where he pursued an MFA in creative writing. While he was in Seattle, he was introduced to steel as an employee of the David Gulassa...

Scott Gordon, Odyssey, 2021
By Scott Gordon
Located in Sharon, VT
Odyssey welded steel Measures: 18.5 x 19 x 18 in. Rooted in industrial materiality and abstract expression, Odyssey invites the viewer into a narrative of motion and emergence. A spiraling steel ribbon unfurls around a central, columnar form—ribbed and machined with mechanical precision—suggesting a journey inward or upward. A sharp, angular plane rises nearby like a sentinel or waypoint, introducing tension and verticality. The contrast of machined and hand-forged surfaces echoes the balance between human intention and mechanical force. With a commanding presence on its rough-edged steel base, Odyssey reflects on structure, evolution, and the persistence of form through time. Scott Gordon, Venus, 2021
By Scott Gordon
Located in Sharon, VT
Venus welded steel Measures: 12-1/2 x 17-1/2-37 in. This vertical steel sculpture presents a commanding, almost anthropomorphic figure, assembled from industrial components and softened by age-worn patina. A central oval form anchors the piece—suggesting a torso—while angular extensions imply limbs or mechanical appendages. The upward-reaching element at the top introduces a sense of gesture or alertness, reinforcing the piece’s totemic quality. Sturdy yet expressive, the work balances raw materiality with suggestive figuration. Its posture hints at motion held in pause, evoking associations with tools, guardians, or relics of an unknown past. Artist Statement I work with materials that have already lived a life — steel that’s rusted, bent, scarred. These imperfections hold a kind of quiet beauty, one that speaks not of utility but of presence. Though my work sometimes carries figurative echoes, I’m drawn to the non-figurative: the essential, the raw. Steel, once loud and forceful in its industrial context, becomes still and intimate in this new form. Each composition emerges through direct interaction with found parts. I rarely alter the materials beyond what is necessary. Instead, I allow them to dictate form — interlocking, balancing, and aligning until their relationship feels complete. The process is intuitive, the engineering elemental. Art, for me, is a spiritual act — a practice of selflessness and stillness. It doesn't seek acclaim or commercial appeal. It simply exists, honest and sacred. Biography Scott Gordon (b. 1966, Ridgewood, NJ) lives and works in Vermont. He studied business at the University of Denver and earned an MFA in creative writing from the University of Washington. During his time in Seattle, he worked at David Gulassa...

Scott Gordon, Succession, 2021
By Scott Gordon
Located in Sharon, VT
Succession welded steel Measures: 6-1/4 x 13-1/2 x 5-1/2 in. This minimalist steel sculpture features a rhythmic progression of three arching forms, each rising from a shared rectangular base. Varying slightly in scale and curvature, the arcs evoke a sense of motion—like a wave cresting and falling, or stages in a structural evolution. The oxidized surfaces lend a rich patina, highlighting the tactile character of the metal and the passage of time. Balancing repetition with variation, the work engages the viewer through its quiet presence and industrial materiality. It is at once architectural and organic, a study in form, balance, and endurance. Artist statement: I work with materials that have already lived a life — steel that’s rusted, bent, scarred. These imperfections hold a kind of quiet beauty, one that speaks not of utility but of presence. Though my work sometimes carries figurative echoes, I’m drawn to the non-figurative: the essential, the raw. Scott Gordon, Monument, 2020
By Scott Gordon
Located in Sharon, VT
Monument welded steel, found objects 20.5 x 16 x 4 in. Monument stands as a stark, enigmatic structure—part signal, part shrine. With its twin-columned base and vertical shaft crowned by a cantilevered horizontal arm, the piece recalls ancient markers or industrial relics repurposed for reverence. The form is at once rigid and reaching, grounded yet gestural. Its silhouette suggests a memorial to unseen histories—a tribute to labor, endurance, or forgotten architectures. The off-center balance and weathered presence give it a sense of quiet authority, as though it were a relic unearthed from a future past. With minimalist economy and ritual poise, Monument invites contemplation on permanence, presence, and the symbols we choose to elevate. Artist Statement I work with materials that have already lived a life — steel that’s rusted, bent, scarred. Scott Gordon, Portal, 2021
By Scott Gordon
Located in Sharon, VT
Portal welded steel Measures: 8.5 x 12.5 x 17.5 in. This abstract steel sculpture explores the balance between solidity and openness. A vertical arm rises from an irregularly shaped base, terminating in a cantilevered form that projects outward. The composition is simple yet evocative, suggesting movement or transition—an architectural gesture frozen in time. Surface textures, visible welds, and the rawness of the metal emphasize the hand of the maker and the industrial origins of the material. The work invites contemplation of spatial tension, negative space, and the quiet power of restraint. Both grounded and reaching, it speaks to themes of structure, memory, and impermanence. China Natural Stone "Painting" Restless Sea and Waves
Located in South Burlington, VT
Chinese extraordinary natural stone painting "Restless Sea and Waves" #6 unique painting This Chinese extraordinary natural stone "painting" of sea and waves in action in white and gray colors is called a dream stone Shih-hua. They are cut from historic Dali marble found in the Cangshan mountains of western China. These mysterious mountains, unique in the world, are known for yielding incredible and fantastic natural landscaped works of art created over tens of millions of years from mineral inclusions that affected the process of ancient organic material which transformed into limestone and finally resulted in marble- a metamorphic hard stone. This art form is centuries of years old since the Ming dynasty. Dream stones became favored art in the west particularly since the 19th century when French collectors named them Pierres de reve. This thin marble stone "painting" is approximately 1/4" thick and is cut from a large slab of rough material revealing incredible patterns in soft white and gray colors. Its weight is surprisingly modest- easily hung with standard hardware. On occasion, private collectors would invite an artisan to inscribe a poetic description onto their more important dream stones and in this case the artists' seal mark and calligraphy translation reads: Beautiful Action of sea and waves Framed under glass Dimensions: Frame: 13 inches high and 17.5 inches wide. Site: 6.5 inches high and 11 inches wide. Provenance: Private Chinese collection, Yunnan, China. History of "White and Gray" dream stone paintings: “White and Gray” dream stone paintings known in China as Shui Mo or Chinese painting stone, were cut from stone found on Shuang Yang mountain in Dali mountains Captivating compositions, they might remind us of a long string of rugged mountain caps from a distance. These dream stones are cut from a scarce regional stone yielding notoriously “fuzzy” detailed paintings. To find examples possessing clear, contrasting detail like this one is indeed a rare find. Fine stone paintings like this example are rare as access to and availability of resource material diminishes. After a thin coating of wax is carefully applied to its surface to protect and reveal its beautiful subtle colors, this stone painting is signed upper right position with poetic verse and seal of an artisan who describes its majestic beauty. Eric Slayton Corten Steel Console Table, Plate Series, 2010
By Eric Slayton
Located in New York, NY
Contemporary American furniture maker and artist Eric Slayton's console is made of weathered Corten steel plates. Each having the qualities and variations Slayton searches for, they are welded together resulting in a beautiful example of wabi-sabi. Steel and its use in architectural applications has always generated an emotional response for the artist, so simply stated it became his pallet. Every piece is a commissioned ‘art as furniture one-off’ that is numbered and signed. The console is part of his Plate Series and will ship directly from the artist's studio. Extraordinary Landscape "Moonlight Long Horizons" Work of Art
Located in South Burlington, VT
Extraordinary natural stone work of art, one of a kind. This Chinese extraordinary natural stone "painting" suggestive of a group of mountain peaks landscape features light and dark colors, white, cream, yellow and dark green. This is called a dream stone Shih-Hua. It is a round cut stone and is set in a circular mat- the image suggests the appearance of a planet. This art form is centuries of years old since the Ming dynasty. Dream stones became favored art in the west particularly since the 19th century when French collectors named them Pierres de reve. This thin marble stone is approximately 1/4" thick and is cut from a large slab of rough material revealing incredible patterns in soft white and gray colors. Its weight is surprisingly modest- easily hung with standard hardware. On occasion, private collectors would invite an artisan to inscribe a poetic description onto their more important dream stones and in this case the artists' seal mark and calligraphy translation reads: Dimensions: Frame: 15.5 inches high and 33 inches wide. Site: 8 inches by 28 inches Provenance: Private Chinese collection, Yunnan, China. History of dream stone "moon light" works of art: Moonlight...
