you were in my dream the other night
‘You were in my dream the other night’ is the first painting in a 4-part installment of paintings dedicated to the theme/prompt ‘give yourself over to devotion.’ I wanted to create a piece that conveys the almost celestial presence in our subconscious of the people we admire/desire/adore. I wanted to create art that depicts evidence of magic in a dream-state. With Black, queer-trans figures at the center. This piece was made with a combination of images rendered via AI (Midjourney) and my favored Microsoft Paint 3D software.
Mercy Thokozane Minah is a queer, nonbinary multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in South Africa. the gist of their work, across literary, theatrical and visual arts mediums, is to carefully study intimacy as it exists among Black queer-trans people.
